This is an interesting thread. I was walking through WallyWorld the other day and saw a cat house (no not that kind) that was just a big foam rubber cube with fabric over it and a hole in it about 10" in diameter. It got me thinking about using it as a speaker enclosure. Here is my thinking...
Think of it as a small open baffle with absorbant material to reduce the back wave. If we assume that we are using a relatively high Q driver might the material absorb a lot of the back wave giving useful sound output? Perhaps a solid front baffle under the front side of the cube and just the foam/fabric cube on the rest of it. Not thinking of getting much bass from it obviously but thought it might give some of the OB sound without having to be so far out in the room.
Or maybe not. 🙂
