That is not a question, it is a statement with a "?" where the "." should be.
The subsequent misanthropy was never in doubt.
Interesting,
Not an invitation to comment then? 🙂
There are many people who do "what they can"..however the driving force of society..how does that weigh up

sofaspud,
Well it would be very interesting hear your point of view..you have said quite a lot without saying very much..I'm interested in peoples point of view ie why start the thread..I would not want want the conversation stopped with bigotry.
People should be free to comment without fear of derision..

Man is no threat whatsoever to the planet...only to the particular and narrow set of conditions under which we evolved and now thrive. The planet started out a molten assemblage of asteroids. During its long history it once entered a planet-wide ice age lasting millions of years, slowly ended by the buildup of volcanic CO2 in the atmosphere. It has been much hotter and much colder in the past than now. What we think of as the Earth is an onion skin thin crust that is recycled back into the mantle over time. Whatever were to happen including all out thermonuclear war, the planet would go on happily spinning and orbiting until the sun goes red giant. We may be a threat to ourselves and to other life-forms, but the planet will be just fine with us or without us.
Yes,
an interesting point of view Earth would be fine..I guess the problem is to life as we know it..
It would be great to hear what people from China think of the situation..if they think there is one..

I once heard a numerical breakdown of a theoretical equal distribution of World food supplies broken down & equally distributed throughout the World. If I recall correctly each individual would have about an Ice-cream scoops worth of Rice, a piece of Fish the size of ones finger....ONE string beans worth of a vegetable...a marble size worth of a bread....etc, etc. With the World population doubling at an increasing rate(hyperbolic)...the spread between the haves and the have-nots, will be widening at an ever increasing rate.
You haven't seen nothing yet.....The restraints on population will rear their ugly heads....famine, war, genocide.....
Only when these restraints kick in, will the World stabilize itself. Soon, humans will be eating all aquatic life-forms....previously ignored species. The former lush fields of green will be stripped well before maturity. It does sound like Locust behaviour doesn't it?
China saw the "writing on the wall", long ago, by implementing its' One-child policy......unfortunately, no one else has.

I once heard...
Maybe best to check it out before repeating it.
See, for example, http://www.agecon.purdue.edu/staff/shively/COURSES/AGEC406/reviews/lectures/L38x.ppt
Worldwide, over 6000 calories per day per capita agro output. The issue is distribution, not production.

BBC News - Antibiotic resistance 'big threat to health'
Thinking also about China and the bees..We eat the honey it contains antibiotics..what happens to buggs in a low antibiotic environment..
Save the Bees let them pollinate the fowers..perhaps don't eat the antibiotic honey..some will..

Cough, cough. Isn't that a bit like answering "No, your car will be just fine, only the engine will freeze up" when asked "Will it hurt my car if I never check or change the oil?" ? True, sure, but a little silly.Man is no threat whatsoever to the planet...only to the particular and narrow set of conditions under which we evolved and now thrive.
(It's probably the smart-*** answer I would give, tho) 😉
The answer is simple and correct...the conceit is in those who prattle on about "the planet" confusing man's risks to man with risks to the rock we ride on. I think it stems from the inability to imagine that the earth will continue to soldier on long after we are gone. As simplistic as a child who covers his eyes and thinks others can't see him.
Oh thats an easy one to answer, you just need to look at the ruins of pripyat to answer that, it takes a mere 10-20 years before the pavement gives way to endless grassland and for the windows of buildings to be blown out by storms (and not be replaced = lack of window repairers).
Yep, 10-20 years before it starts looking like a grassland and most man made objects are beyond repair and need demolishing.
Without constant daily maintenance, suspension bridges will collapse rather quickly.
Skyscrapers will become bird breeding houses within 10 years.
Subways will become underground fishtanks within 1 day.
Clocks will last maybe 10,000 years: Introduction - 10,000 Year Clock - The Long Now
About the only thing that will be left standing to last within 3 generations post-collapse will be structures made out of stainless steel or brass/copper, that is if they aren't melted down for apparent scrap value at any time in the future.
Two words: Stonehenge, Pyramids.
Pano: I see it as: "Will my car be okay if I treat it in such a way that it causes my death?".
I still have belief in "the goodness of man" and often meet people that reinforce it. When I take the time to look past my cynicism I see people as inherently good and full of potential for true progress. Being beneficial to society is just as much a survival instinct as is greed (although everything good seems to get twisted by the greedy in a cruel and ironic way to do more harm than the good it was intended to do. Did the pioneers of the internet ever think " I can't wait until people start using this for child porn!" or Edward Butler saying " I hope this pollutes the earth straight to hell and causes war over resources!").
Maybe it's not too late. I notice this type of conversation often in public places, so more people are becoming aware of the problems and voicing their opinions about them. Maybe, the society organism is self healing... or evolving out of an adolescent phase.

If a tree falls in the forest. 😉
Comparing our society and it's behaviour to the rest of the animal kingdom is lacking something. No, animals don't start wars or hoard money but many of them eat babies.
Two words: Stonehenge, Pyramids.
They won't last as long as you think, every single man made ancient structure that is visible today requires constant maintenance in-order to prevent erosion by wind, by rain (where it rains), by bird poop, by sand storm, because we as a human race uncovered these ruins from underneath the ground, except for the pyramids.
It was the sand/soil that was protecting them.
I for one don't want to have to travel to Egypt on a slave/trade boat for 30 days and 30 nights just to see the last ruins of civilization, no matter how romantic it sounds. 🙂

While we appreciate that not everything in our lives is related to audio, can we make sure we don't wander into those areas that are not permitted here? This thread is far too interesting to ruin it with some off the cuff comments, no matter their validity.
If anyone needs a refresher, here are the rules:

Thanks, and may we say that we are a bit disappointed you aren't, at this very moment, busy with a soldering iron in one hand and a router in the other.
Thank you. 😉

I come across acts of cruelty far more often than I do acts of kindness, at least that's the case where I live, you know Mr Rogers out of Lost in Space? Yeah well call me when you have a million of them running around.
I for one believe that the internet has only one saviour, *SELF-CENSORED*, by combining peoples greed with the need for a fully independent/autonomous peer 2 peer website, *SELF-CENSORED*are going to save the internet, no longer will censorship be an issue, no more will corporations or governments be able to dictate what is put on their own networks (the internet).Being beneficial to society is just as much a survival instinct as is greed (although everything good seems to get twisted by the greedy in a cruel and ironic way to do more harm than the good it was intended to do. As soon as that occurs the internet will become p2p and websites will require cloud seeding to operate. It sure is a whole lot better than the one that was proposed not so long ago, that is the complete lock down of the internet and having to pay in-order to access certain websites.
I for one hope that they have the brains to enact a sensible plan to safely wind down our society without any bloodshed.Maybe it's not too late. The two big ones are politics and religion, but yeah I'll try and keep things sanitary.

I gotta wait for my package to arrive from russia yet... honest! 🙂

We appreciate that. There are other places to discuss such topics, where you aren't asked to behave like you are here. We pride ourselves in that.

No excuse, you probably have a number of projects you are neglecting while waiting for parts from Russia. If you don't. we have the right to question the nature of your DIY character. 😉
Cheers.
Whoa... you get some freaky TV over there. Mr. Rogers on Lost in Space? "That does not compute! That does not compute!".... you know Mr Rogers out of Lost in Space?
