I would look at it as the more things change the more we'll discover that back then many things are so much better. Hence the resurgence of LP, Tube amps, high efficiency speakers etc.
there is no doubt the quality of source material, electronics and speakers have improved. Folks still change caps, resistors, ICs, tubes, cables for better? ones. We are constantly looking for better speakers and that sweet listening spot.
I saw the video and couldnt help thinking "Imagine having a component shop like that in town". Good 'ol days indeed - so that's what was going on when I was 2 -
I miss our local Maplin shop.
The company started up again but no longer any electronic components.
In the good old days you filled in an order form for parts with stock codes from the catalogue. You posted it off and waited a few days for it to come back. There would usually be parts missing as they were out of stock.
These days if I order before 8pm I get stuff from RS Components next day.

5khz is a bit high xo for a 12" to a tweeter. Nobody else reacted to that?
I quite miss proper record shops though... Streaming is not a good substitute, especially with those horribly poor algorithms they implement.
