I understand completely. F6 is my darling. Love it. I too had to try the big boys. They are very similar, but I think big boys win on the extremes of the spectrum, but are very similar in the midrange. I have 3 way, but it tops out at 88dB. Tried horn and 15" and did some things really well, but was not romantic enough for me. Don't have room for OB and have t seen anything big or efficient that was interesting. I would like a Tannoy setup like ZM, but they are harder to come by over here.
and , you assumed ...... ?
I assumed it was absolute perfect symmetry cancelling all 2nd harmonic.
If I had the money to get Papa to make me a personalised amp I would ask for the first 2 gain stages in Ultra symmetry fashion going for the least amount of distortion in those 2 stages, then leaving the source-follower output stage out of the feedback loop entirely then tweaking the output stage to sound like an SIT1 but with more speaker control.
Maybe -70dB 2nd harmonic then 3rd harmonic about -85dB then nothing else at 1W. Possibly even more 2nd harmonic but not more third harmonic than -85dB at 1W.
Gee I love to dream. 😀

Did you end up building the speaker with GPA/Altec drivers?
I know you were working on it a few years ago.
I think the F6 is a bloody beautiful amp once it is dialed in exactly like you have done it.
I have found you can make open baffles work in small rooms.

Your dream amp sounds like Xs. The younger brothers have output stage in feedback loop but still maintain desired goals.
I did build Altec. Huge! Then dropped down to Faital Pro setup that was size of JBL K2 stuff. For its size, it didn't deliver what was needed. Still have big speaker, but not that big, and it can put me thru back wall if needed, but still play lovely jazzy stuff.

Actually I think my dream amp would be an F6 circuit with damping factor of at least 30, Open loop frequency response of 20kHz.
I think my dream amp could also potentially be BAF Mu Follower.
Nelson has a lot of bloody nice circuits.
I think I have come to love absolute brutal dumbness.
M2 is also a great example of the dumbness philosophy.

OK you got my interest.
What do you think this means?
Banks of redundantly parallel high speed / soft recovery rectifiers
Are we talking on the power supply, or in parallel with source resistors on output stage?
good thing with bigger speaker installations ( and note that mine are really on bottom of the scale ) is that - they're simply disappearing in environment

I would like to hear either ZM.
Pico, I imagine that the diodes are psu based for tremendous current draw of Xs. Then again, Nelson is always clever. Diodes in F5T helped extend power, but made for ugly transistion, from what I gleaned.

This is the sought of dumbness I appreciate.
This is how I would do a balanced output stage. Super Asymmetry. Hahahahaha
Then I'd keep paralleling/adding current till it sounded how I wanted.
It has to be dumb or I'm not interested. Sheer brutal dumbness. 🙂

well ..... not bad , but if you are searching for it , there are even more un-efficient ways to do it
not interested in making that symm. circ to work , then unbalancing it in proper way ?

I'm interested but the brain had a melt down

Yeah if it is even dumber I am interested. I suppose you could throw lamp in where the constant current source is.
Although most of the fun is thinking of it yourself.
I've sought of lost interest in other peoples ideas unless they are raw and dumb.
I can literally think of a new dumb idea every minute. Hahahaha

When are we gonna see the "asymmetrical thunder form down under"?
I just gave one example shown above, but I just thought of that one on the spur of the moment as an example. I have literally dozens of dumb ideas.
I have one idea I am working on but it still needs more work. It needs a touch more intelligence for the dumbness to be appreciated.
I might ask Papa for a tip to get it to do what I want.
Cool. I meant working version. They always sound better than sims![]()
Aaaah. Ok. That wouldn't take too long to throw together.
I may as well build it just for the fun of it.
I'm still half way through playing with eSCAPEd Goat MkI.
I'll try and finish up that one first.
