Hello guys, long time I’ve been away but not much has changed.
I’m getting away from building some speakers with china parts, and going to more expensive measured respectable ones.
So i find it cheaper and easier to use some high full range with a low woofer instead of using a high woofer with Tweters. Thas in a 2.1 system in a box, as i like them. Basically im between some really small 15w Bluetooth speaker and a 40cm*20*20(16liters) 2.1 SIB.
So i wanted to start a central/guide to all the viable options out there tailored for this universe and not form some 40Liters speakers, and keep updating the main post with susgestions
For the woofers theres are only a few options like the tangbang w5-1138smf, or one of those sonos play5 woofers from ebay that ive tested and pack quite a punch in a sealed box.
Its when we get to the fullrange market that we get a ton of options
2inch
-visaton BF 45
-visaton FRS 5X

Dayton PS95
Dayton RS100

All this said, what are your recommendations for this list, ideas, or new drivers to the add? Plz contribute and stay safe 😉

With the great demand from TVs, computers, other multimedia kit, the number of FRs available for midTweeter use has exploded.
All the ones you posted, i am pretty sure are made in China.
Of those you have listed i have heard the FR88, which is decent, not as good as those below which are my favourites, and the TC9 which i think sucks. Big brother TG9 is OK.
My favourites, Alpair A5.2/3, FF85wk, Faital Pro 3FE22.

Thank you so much for your answer. You got any opinion about the fe85 or the ps95? I never heard any of those personally, but they tend to be the most regarded arround here. Mainly the TC9 you claim it sucks 😅
But thanks for the options, the faital pro are around 18eurs around here, the other 2 are way more expensive.
And btw, you got any filter option for that faital? Those highs seem pretty crazy

I do not comment on the sonics of drivers if i haven’t heard that one, learned the lesson after getting 4 TC9s based on recommendations.
FE85 is a super low budget variation on the FE88ex. Like the CHN-50 is to the Alpair 5.2/3.
I am typically not a big fan of Dayton on moralistic grounds. Some of them are basically rebranded Auras, those are probably ON. The Aura NS3 is.

If i wanted to build those faitals, in a really small encosure for that 2.1 system in a box, basically needing only to cover freqs above 160hz, can you recomend me the smallest volume possible (close to 1Liter) and some kind of filter, if needed?
1 litre is smaller than any box i would use for the FP. Minimum is 2-2.5 litre.
160 Hz is also a high cutoff for a single sub.

I got you, but that's why i think it can work. I'm not gonna make a 30hz sub. I'm gonna use a 5.5' woofer , that can reach somewhere around 50-60hz at decent volume and can work until 1000hz, that's why I can cut it at 180-210hz without any problem.
When it comes to the FR, the high pass starts at around 160/180 so the driver to get all distortion from high low freqs and can keep the stability until 20000

I think you mean “Definitive” not definite?

Do keep in mind that those clips all have a whole bunch of stuff in them beyond your control in the audio that all the small details that tell you a lot about the performance of a speaker goes missing.
You can try to use them to choose, but there will be so many unanswered questions.

Damn the 2 gurus of this forum answered me 😅
Sorry, my English is not my main language
I've seen all of those comparisons, and my list were based on it and all of the drivers I found to be the best balance between price and performance. The ones you recommend are either hard to find arround here or are pretty expensive.
I'll try to find them and try to add some prices to my post as soon as I have the time.

Exactly, that was exactly one of the reasons for this thread, so people can explain those details, talk about their experiences arround these drivers and I'll keep adding info to the thread
But you lose stereo with the sub above about 100 Hz.
dave
Is that so? Can you plz explain me why? There's still a lot of things I have to learn compared to you. I'm and audio noob
