The Burning Amp Festival- an Audio Happening

I found the new web site and tried to register but I haven't heard back and I haven't seen any posts about burning amp. Just wanted to make sure it is still smoldering along.

Tom

Hello,

Yes the Burning Amp is alive and well and is on schedule as posted - October 18.

The only difference is that this year out of the three burners, Variac, SY and myself it will be only Variac who is in charge of the show. So please be patient as the Mark is doing the job of the three, plus he is the driving force behind the redesign of the DIYAudio site which is still undergoing effort as you are most likely aware.

Both SY and myself had to deal with changes in our professional life which resulted in moving out of the state for SY and for me starting with new and very demanding job. Because of that I didn't want to officially participate this year simply because putting together show takes a lots of time and energy that I just do not have this year. I will help Mark as much as I can, and I will do as much as possible but I figure out it would be more honest not to participate in the capacity I had than to do it the half way.

It is also worth saying that for all previous shows we had a great help from Jan Diden who will be participating again this year. The other good news is that this year Mark could count on Cviller who is in Bay Area on special burning assigment from Denmark. 🙂

So, please give a hand of little patience to Mark and lets use this forum for all the news and info exchange.

All the best and I am looking forward to see you all in October.

Mark or Vladimir, two things...

First, are you looking for additional presenters? I'd like to talk to one of you if you are.

Second, if Alex from Raal is going to be as generous as he has been the past two years, I thought that rather than giving away a pair of ribbon tweeters, maybe we could hold either a live or silent auction so we could raise some money for future BAFs. I know that I would be very interested in bidding them up!

Hello WBS,

Mark would be the right person to talk to. Regarding Alex, I do not know if he will be bringing any presents for BAF, but I do know that he will be coming for the show. Certainly, having last years experience, we should definitely think about better way of handling donations.

Vladimir

I'm here! and BAF WILL be here on Oct 18th. I will shortly respond to those that want to send donations in advance and be eligible for the special "Paid in Advance" lottery prize.Yes, the site launch has taken up all of my free time to this point, but the one thing nailed down ,FIXED, ironclad, is that we have the Presidio Yacht Club reserved for October 18, 2009..

Cost is the same as in previous years - $20 per person..

Since we are going to be ORGANIZED this year we need to know what you are bringing to audition. Of course bringing equipment to audition isn't required to attend...

I'm in SF that weekend and will be attending. My equipment is either in the planning parts gathering stage (B1,F3,F5) or else the assembled nonfunctional debugging stage (gainclone) so I am there to learn but I'd be glad to be volunteered for something so that I'll feel like I'm contributing something.

Mark, I'd like to bring my new phono, along with it's pre.

Mark, I've listened to Bill's setup and it is some of the best DIY audio I've heard. I suggest that time be allotted upstairs in the main room with the most powerful tube amp available. It would be great to hook it up to the NN Audio Xenias if they show up this year and are efficient enough.

In addition to providing great audio, Bill's new piece is a work of art!

Well, we will certainly demo it, and we need a reference turntable.
I'm getting lots of e-mails with info and requests as to where to send the paypal entrance fee. I have a family emergency with my father, and will answer the messages early next week and post who has contacted me.
Keep sending your confirmations! iguana Atsymbol crozone.com

That might be interesting as long as it sounds like music and not some deafening whale mating ritual. 😀

Oh, heavens no no no no noooo. I was thinking vocal music. Diamanda Galas, perhaps?

Besides, a fellow is off in Norway playing whalesongs through the woofer in an effort to convince the Norwegians they should deny Japan's request to kill more whales. I should apply for my halo or some bloody thing. You should be glad it's over there: had we the time, there were some PE woofers which could've driven another 8 dB from the box with a beefier amp. Got earthquake?

count me in...

if I can get ready in time... Family emergency myself, too..

I have this half-bake idea on a realistics based subwoofer limiter idea using doppler radar for measuring actual displacement and a DC biasing circuit for measuring coil temperature rise so I'd like a table showing off what parts I'll have completed by show time.

Will fill out the forms and stuff once the family emergency is over.
