Says who? I have 5 jobs and do not plan to retire!!!
...oh you mean the Memory Lane™ content! Well I still maintain broadcast consoles with P&G faders, so that is current news as well...so there!

And since there is no other audio development related content at the moment:
Radio DJ fries mixing board live on the air on Vimeo
It is not only the faders which get affected by liquids in consoles....as I also found out one night doing sound when a totally drunk A$$ dumped a beer in the Wheatstone console I was using...the entire drum sub-group went dark.
Anyone got something better to talk about?

And to add visuals to that horror story starring some drive-time buffoons:The Day The Board Caught Fire | Facebook
I'd have to see someone fired.

I used to work for CW and I couldn't get my hands on any P and G pots. I wanted to buy a couple and it was such a headache I gave up.

:-D yes maybe thats what I ment... I surely wasn't addressing you - your post just happened to be there... ;-)

Howie,
It looks like it will be way more profitable to parts out the Neve 55 console than to sell it intact!
Really too big for most users and no automation.
The there is one advertised for sale at $5,600.00. Just the faders will sell for more than that! Best way is to repackage the input modules and let folks use them as channel strips.
The real problem is that it is a custom built console and a bit weird.

I’ve actually done that, should I feel pride or shame.....maybe a little of both! 😀
It did keep my drunken friends from melting down my H/K though.

There are 2.2 ohm resistors in series with the speaker to give the system a warm, tube- like sound. Without these, the volume control would be set at 17 or 18.
Volume Limiter solutions
I achieve a similar goal by placing an equalizer/gain control for the Control Room monitors in an adjacent locked equipment room. In addition to protecting the monitors from destruction it lets me limit the bass to keep inter-room bleed to a minimum and I haven't lost any speakers yet. Of course if they really want to blast, they can put headphones on, but then they lose their hearing alone...
Cheers,
Howie
Gee on my systems we use a compressor to ease over the volume and then a limiter to set the maximum level. A typical cost to replace a tweeter can run $5,000.00!
I learned my lessons on a system that used to blow several drivers per game. Fortunately there was easy (80' ladder) access to the drivers. I was able to monitor the voice coil impedance in real time and learned to get the limits to where they stopped blowing drivers every game.

And you call yourself an audiophile? That poor music, being compressed like that until it screams for mercy! Shame! Shame!!! And a limiter? You would place limits on music? Art must be free...free I tell you!
LOLOL Yep, your technique has worked well for me in live sound systems for many years...as you say, you figure that out pretty quickly when the club owners ask why the system you just installed blew up the first night some band of teen metal heads plays...expensive lessons well learned...
Cheers!
Howie
Two wood screws I find is the very best way to control excessive volume and potential ear/nose bleeds.
