I've heard that they're good monitors. I've also read some reviews in an Italian Audio magazine lately. They weren't very cheap though.
I'll give it a look, thanks!
Not bad for the Kef C3 :Affordable speakers I like are: Roth Oli2, Tangent EVO E5, System Fidelity SF-3030, Wharfedale Diamond 10.1, Yamaha NS-333, KEF C3, Canton GLE420, Boston CS26, Indiana Line Musa 105, Mordaunt Short Aviano 1.
Does anyone have any direct experience with any of them? Or just have a special deal on some😛

I bought one pair in 1996, I was looking for another pair to go quad a few years ago and they were going for like a hundred euros on ebay, very good deal!I've heard that they're good monitors. I've also read some reviews in an Italian Audio magazine lately. They weren't very cheap though.

I love how the audio industry fails at improving their products

the MDR-CD3000/R10 are prolly the best headphones, and they were sold in 1991...20 years ago! nothing sold nowadays can touch them, pathetic.
Thank you... but I don't use ebay anymore.
Also I need a bookshelf! The SF-3030 is a bookshelf, but endowed with a 16.5 cm woofer which isn't that small. I wonder how it sounds... I can have it for just 170 euro plus shipping.

Hmm, I don't really think I agreee with you, on the industry and on the headphones 🙂
well, name some headphones that kill these two SONY ex-top of the line then 🙂Hmm, I don't really think I agreee with you, on the industry and on the headphones 🙂
most headphones/loudspeakers manufacturers are selling +50yo technologies...if they were going as fast as computer makers, new products would be a night and day w/ 20yo gear(386>core i5), it's clearly not the same w/ audio gear...R&D is mostly inexistent? Beyer 770/880 are a hack, beyer must be making a 5000% mark up on these 😀
And the KEF C3 is very interesting too (even at 230 euro or so).
I'd like to buy me a pair of Paradigm Monitor Atom .6 which I heard recently...and they were great with their titanium tweeter etc. But...350-400 euro.
On the other hand I also heard the Canton GLE420 which sounded quite good indeed (driven just by my Pioneer), and can be found for 249 euro + shipping over here.

They won't certainly kill them for you, but I'm sure that the HD650 is technically and sonically better. Therefore the HD800 is much better than the now "very old news" Sony CD3000. 🙂well, name some headphones that kill these two SONY ex-top of the line then 🙂
It sounds like my Polk Audio Monitor 30 is worth nothing, eh? 😛 Not really the case. But I've become tired with what I have, I want to change something...either speakers or amplifier. 😱
hehe yeah, I knew you'd mention the HD650...sadly it's a $10 toy compared to the cd3k 😛They won't certainly kill them for you, but I'm sure that the HD650 is technically and sonically better. Therefore the HD800 is much better than the now "very old news" Sony CD3000. 🙂
if you ever get the chance, try some cd3k...you'll toss your senn' in the blink of an eye.
a modded cd3k can become a baby R10, and there's no question that the R10 was/is/will always remain the king of musicality and soundstage....that would explain why some ppl toss more than $7K on it 😉
did you hear the HD800? it clearly doesn't appear to be a cd3k killer..what the cd3k/R10 do better than anything else is 1)PRaT 2)soundstage.
Sony MDR-CD3000 Reviews :: Headphone Reviews
and the best chip I've heard to compliment its wiiiiide SS is the 797B, hands down at thatThe highlight of the CD3000 is most certainly its cavernous soundstage that separates instruments into their own locations better than all but only the very best headphones. The first time I heard these cans, I was mesmerized by the expansiveness and surrounding nature of the soundstage. The angled drivers undoubtedly help these cans project a frontal soundstage better than many competitors.

so should I even try to replace LT1028A by LT1115? 😛
I will also try to solder some 1028A/AD797B directly on browndog's and compare against those that I currently run that are on sockets

it's also not clear whether LT1128 is unity gain stable 😱
🙂 It is all here...

As I keep banging on... you have to apply devices correctly 🙂

Definitely it is made to be. 😉
LT1115? Sweeter and more relaxed (also implying: less transparent), & tonally warmer LT1028. I see no reason to desire this when you ditched the OPA1611 so quickly 🙂

It's not that black-or-white...
I'll try it as I have it anyway.LT1115? Sweeter and more relaxed (also implying: less transparent), & tonally warmer LT1028. I see no reason to desire this when you ditched the OPA1611 so quickly 🙂
so why not using LT1128 instead of LT1028? lower slew rate, looks good!
Because, while similar, it didn't stand out like the LT1028 among the better chips. I preferred the LME49710NA, to the LT1128, overall. I think I preferred the LT1115 too 🙂I'll try it as I have it anyway.
