currently listening to 1611...I really don't like it 😀
bass is good, but it's got that typical BB sound I hate...it's hard to put into words, it sounds blurry compared to the 1028A.

Or that the LT1028A sounds hard compared to the OPA1611. 🙂
I've understood why you like the AD797 that much, BTW.

1611 sounds colored to death and WAYYYY too laid back compared to 1028A..and it completely kills the 797B SS.
I'll roll 827 while I'm at it 😀

The OPA1611 "colored"... and I thought it was a more mature sounding LT1028. 🙂
Anyhow...whatever you like.
Anyhow...whatever you like.
827 is much better! the trebles are very much there, hah...you know all this blind op-amp rolling is a hit & miss anyway.
jazz trumpet sounds like recorded on a crappy cassette on the 1611, now it sounds like a metal tape w/o dolby on the 827...1028A was like a 2" pro reel tape in Dolby S.

exactly 😀
well 827 is too bright, and seems to bring stuff hidden in the back to the front...but well I've only listened to it for like 5 mins 😛
PRaT seems lower than 1028A, anyway 1028A is perfect for me behind the 797B...827 seems to kill the 797B SS, 1028A does not.

put back 1028A, I'm back home on my killer set up 🙂
I'll take it easy on rolling for a bit.
I'll try to solder some 1028 directly on the browndog maybe when I'll be bored 😉
low end is very percussive, the 797B SS is very much alive in full 360 degrees, mids are uncolored(meaning very versatile, not "one note" like the extreme 1611) and trebles are perfect...I'm in heaven 🙂

Probably, summing the "vynil sound" of the AD797B with the sweet(ish) sound of the OPA1611 isn't the best of ideas 🙂
sweetish 1611? colorish to deathish I'd say 😛
yeah, 797B+1028A sounds like a killer analog set up, perfect mix between high THD vynil/tube and uber-low THD LME4972xx sound...a perfect in-between, I can't hear anything I dislike...and that kinda annoys me, coz now I have no need to solder/roll anymore...we all love this "new toy" feeling
😀
and godd***, the low end is so percussive on the 1028A, mind blowing! 😱

Well, it has a bit of personality...which I like. It doesn't in any way go as far as sounding colored though. I detest impersonal things (and an impersonal sound).
hehe listening to vynil recordings on my setup is scary, all the surface noises sound so true to life...basically it picks up all the very slight details that could be extracted from the source. love it 🙂
1611 clearly has the BB in-house sound to me...hard to explain.

PRaT killing machine, nothing else! it makes you bob your head like sillygodd***, the low end is so percussive on the 1028A, mind blowing! 😱

lampizator nuking then? but yes LME, NE, OPA, THS are crap sounding IMHO.Forget all those AD, LME, LT, NE, OPA, THS opamps.......!
🙄
hehe some bored french guy on a blog says that all the op-amps sound the same, and that I couldn't possibly identify a 5532 over a burson in a DBT...these ppl always crack me up, they are my favorite kind actually...they stay in awe reading datasheets but NEVER listen to the chips, god forbid...maybe they actually realize that they are not worthy, bad case of wooden ears possibly? 😀
he also thinks that "audio grade" op-amps are meaningless, hah...to him audio is just like any other kind of signal, end of story.
he should get a good pair of headphones, an headamp w/ swappable op-amps and compare OPA1611/AD797B/LT1028A/LME49722/NE5532/OPA2111 and maybe he'd stop saying funny stuff on his blog(luckily for him it's written in french, and like 1% of the entire world population can read that language anyhow 😀)
I'll give him the the link of this thread, maybe he could enlighten us...plus he'd have more coverage than on his confidential blog to explain us how all the op-amps sound EXACTLY the same, and how we're just a bunch of very imaginative nutcases.
Andrea, judgment day has arisen for you my dear friend...hope you're ready, good luck then! 😛
