What about the PHL1220?

Its a nice midbass. Very clear, punchy and harmonious.
Here is a response graph on an 11 litre box. Please ignore the midbass cancelation, its a function of floor path interference.
The SPL reading is calibated. With a 2mH coil you can level it and cross some (efficient) tweeter at about 2.5kHz.

Are you the kind that would always run and tell the teacher when someone violated any rule? 🙄

We are aware who Audiophilenoob is. He wished to change his name to signify his new approach to DIY Audio. I have to say that his attitude has been more than acceptable, although I wish he and everyone else would use IMHO a lot more when expressing an opinion to acknowledge that there are few absolutes in audio.

I don't think a bit of time in the bin is something that needs to be mentioned constantly... some pretty established members have spent some bin time- especially when they first signed up.

Missed this one.

Audiophilenoob = Feandil

Feandil = sin binned for abuse to others

Check the email address here:

if you were unaware you didn't discover anything new

I purposely leaked this out over a month ago by posting a link to a webpage of mine with feandil in the username

I was binned for a week... changed my name because of the terrible BS that went on and **** flinging about a speaker set I sold for $2000...

Since I wasn't here to defend myself (and while you all took nice potshots in my bin time) I decided to change the name so that at least for awhile I could still provide help and receive help without others becoming irrate or in many cases rude

I chose the time to reveal that I was feandil... cause it all had blown over...

I'm here to help others and occasionally ask for help... I hope that like always others will treat me with the same respect

It always seemed strange that no one figured it out without my help considering I have a very unique writing style with all the "...." in my internet talk... along with broken lines and sentences for emphasis 😀 😀 😛

/end unneeded speech

No thats not the case, it was more like looking out for the community here. I aluded to the fact the feandil was still showing as 'Banned' in his status, so presumed he was permanantly banned. Then mix in the fact he registered under a new username and all the signs pointed to rule breaking on the forums. I was also somewhat taken back by his attitude and dubious sales practices in his line array thread and that his opinion was the only way. I'm not afraid to say I personally didn't like him from the start.

If he's decided that a 'gaming forum' style of reply clearly isn't the way, then great. To first be taken seriously yourself, you have to start taking others seriously. So I'm the kind of man that can forgive and forget, sorry Audiophilenoob and hope your post's may forever carry 'IMHO' 😀

considering I've been here for 3 months without anyone noticing and have been completely helpful and fair to everyone... perhaps you don't need to worry... Also I would say that my opinion IS the only way... for ME 😛...

audio's like cigars... I hate maduro's... most people like maduros... I only smoke cubans... most people would smoke a good dominican... 🙂... it's taste

The best midrange

............ in the $1.00 category :clown:

The 49 cent NSB on steroids :hot:

* 4 coats of lacquer
* Ferrofluid injection
* Aluminum phase plug for superior HF performance and heatsinking.

Guaranteed to handle 200w rms of music and will handle 400w
for 10 minutes before blowing up, not bad for a 5 watt speaker
modded.

Sound quality is pretty good and best in an array.

😎

Hi all,

I want know what is the best midrange for 3 way loudapeakers:

AudioTechnology C-Quenze 15 H 52 with kapton voice coil
Or
AudioTechnology C-Quenze 18 H 52 with kapton voice coil?

Somebody check the Aluminum VC vs Kapton VC in critical midrange?

Thanks 🙂

I have ordered a 18H with Kapton VC for my upcomming 3-way. Both 15H and 18H are nice sounding, but I want to have the extra body of the 18H. Micro detail of both drivers is very good, but not as good as the Seas Excel or Thiel & Partners Ceramic series. The presentation of details is a bit less defined compared to hard cones.

I do not like PHL, it has not the body of a really good papercone (ScanSpeak/ Audax) or the resolution of a good hard cone (Seas).

Before I start to elaborate on my experience with the driver, it is MY opinion so don't sue me 😉

I agree with Taco that the PHL is flawed, actually it has the weaknesses of a hard cone: severe cone break-ups and sometimes edgy, but also the weaknesses of a softcone: uncontrolled bass. Also in my ears it sounds artificial (about the same way a Thiel&Partner ceramic sounds).

It is just not my cup of tea. I presume that ppl whom like Thiel&Partner will also like PHL.
