So, the original journey started when I needed a new speaker system for my kt88 PP. Well... Need is a very subjective term, maybe it should have been more like want.
Anyways, after sorting out the speakers which were GPA 604 8H-III here:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/259659-gpa-604-8h-iii-build.html
I'm now finding that my KT-88s are too powerful for the speakers. I can barely get the volume dial up beyond 8 o'clock. I believe I'm probably losing some detail since I can't get it low enough?
So, I've decided my next step is to get myself a lower wattage amp and a friend suggested a 2A3 PP. I tend to concure. The slightly lower wattage won't hurt the bass which I already find very marginally lacking. Yet I should gain a slightly better detail.
I'm really loving the looks of something like this:
2A3 Push-Pull amplifier | D a r k L a n t e r n
Where only the tubes are revealed. I can get a custom volumn knob CNCed which will really complete this build.
So, suggestions? where do I start? What are your recommendations? The same friend has recommended me to go with Tango transformers which I find on the pricy end of things, especially since I'll be hiding the trans inside the box..... beautiful trans though I gotta say.

If you're sure that you have an audio taper volume control, wired properly, then the system gain is too high, not the power.
Well, there is NO amplifier too strong or powerful, it is the amplification (gain) from input to output that matters. And how much you have to turn the volume is no indication of effect, only of the gain.
So, if you have a preamp, toss it away, and put a volume control at the input of your poweramp instead.

Tango don´t make any transformers anymore, as I´ve heard. I´m from Sweden, and here we have one of the best makers of transformers, Lundahls which are very well regarded, and in the same quality legion as Tango, albeit not as pretty. But then the price is much lower also.
Yeah, I believe Tango wound up (pun intended) last year, but you can still get NOS. They are just rather expensive.
I read alot of builds for the 2A3 use the Lundahls now, the price is surely very enticing. I don't need them to be pretty as they will sit inside the box. However, naturally when you want to build something and not expect to upgrade anything anytime soon, you gravitate towards something that has almost legendary status, and everyone talks about Tango when budget is not an object.
