I think the definition is drawn when its not a computer, as in the stallman version of its not a computer, if you have to upgrade the software on it then its a computer, otherwise its a microcomputer or standalone appliance/instrument.

Indeed, technically a Hammond organ is as much a synthesizer as a Moog although it uses additive synthesis while a Moog uses subtractive synthesis.

Computers can be synthesisers to, just put a VST synth on it.

I don't.
I consider that a regular wind instrument as its mode of sound production is technically identical to a flute or recorder and it contains no electronics.

Also you don't need to add a VST plug in to a computer for it to be a synth.
For the last 20 years or so every computer came with a set of GM (General MIDI) sounds which it synthesises. All you need to play them is a USB keyboard.

No keyboard but a couple of Theremin and a ribbon controller.
