Is it not an unwritten rule that the person who starts a theme should preferably not be the person who finishes it?

This allows a different person the chance of starting the next theme.

We do sometimes get stuck, and in that circumstance the unwritten rule can be waived.

What do the long time players think?

A few years ago we suffered from a whole lot of instances of people posting track #15 and then asking someone else to start a new thread. I proposed a "gentleman's agreement" that that shouldn't happen. The practice then stopped and so I assumed that there was a tacit agreement to my proposal.

Given that posting the final track is much easier than coming up with a new theme that is original/interesting/fun/fairly easily doable, I think that passing the buck to someone else is a cop out.

That must have been quite some time ago. I have been on here 3 years and have not seen this agreement or any reference to it. I am not in favor of that, because sometimes we will go 2-3 days stuck at 14 because no one wants to choose the next category. Meanwhile the rest of us have to wait until someone gives in and selects a new category. This is supposed to be a lighthearted indulgence, not a school exam. If we are to have such rules, maybe someone should make a post listing those rules. The only one I know about is the one stating that we can only post once in 24 hours for each category.

I missed that, but I look at it somewhat differently.
There is often a great reluctance for anyone to post a no 15, and I've often submitted three or four in a row, just to keep things moving. On the third and/or fourth, I will ask someone else to start a new thread, not because it's in anyway difficult, but not to monopolise it.
