We'd have to delete the post 1, 2, 5, 6 and 10 since they are mere abbreviations which do not form a new word like SNAFU, RADAR or NATO.
Don't know about 8 as I don't read cyrillic.

Sorry, just noticed the translation and Latin lettered bit. Suppose strictly speaking it also does not fit the requirement unless the title is pronounced 'pimmel' which might get a smile from German speakers here!

As far as I know an acronym is initial letters that form a word, and is pronounced as such, like RADAR. An initialisation is (usually) initial letters that are spoken as letters like BBC.
Which puts paid to my YMCA entry.

Which, seeing that Leadbelly who did the original theme obviously wasn't aware of the difference, would be silly.

It shouldn't be that hard to figure out given that the German translation of acronym is Akronym.

In Deutsch: BMW ist eine normale Abkürzung aber GÜFA ist ein Akronym.

An acronym is where the letters are pronounced as a new word, e.g radar or laser. Initialisms have the letters pronounced separately e.g FBI, KGB etc.

For this theme I'm guessing either will do, but it's Leadbelly's call.
