But wait... we must have rules... and "color" must be strictly defined!

:joker:

I humbly suggest to myleftear that we stick with standards - Color is a very general term used to describe every hue, tint, tone, or shade we can see.

But... if we want to get into color...

Are we talking additive or subtractive color? Light in and of itself has no color. There is no color until energy illuminates a substrate. Are we confining ourselves to the generally accepted visible color space for humans? Colors in the rainbow or all the additive colors that can be mixed from 3 'primaries'? How deep do we want to go into what's considered a "pure color"? Are metamerics allowed? Are visible florescents out of play when they're illuminated by light in the UV range? Just hold on a sec!

I kid... I kid...

If one were to go deeper...let's assume the previously referenced "magnolia" is a hue/pure color. We could have shades, tints, and tones of magnolia. A shade of magnolia would generally be accepted as a "darker" version of magnolia when only black is added to the hue "magnolia". Inversely, a tint of magnolia would be the "lighter" version of the hue when only white is added. A tone of magnolia would have only grey added. Each shade, tint or tone of the hue magnolia would be its own color (in generally accepted terms in my field). Black, grey, and white, are strictly defined and are not considered pure colors. Ergo, there can be no shades of white.

Each of those colors would be perceived differently to a standard observer if illuminated by the same standard illuminant. As previously stated, "light" has no color.

I'd submit that normally "sky blue" is generally considered lighter than "blue" and would more likely be a tint of blue than a shade of blue.

Is white still "white" when illuminated by a yellow light? Why is the sky "blue" if the light from the sun is "yellow"? Oh darn!?

I know, i know,... white isn't a colour but as it could be illuminated by a yellowish light... and it ads to confusion which is fun! :D

Aah, the shade of a colour and the colour of light.
Gnihihi...

Actually, a pure colour is a purely theoretical thing that kinda doesn’t exist. Except for some laser beams which are light-beams of a single frequency/colour and thus don’t exist either (?)

The blueness of the sky comes from the light being polarized (the sky is darkest at 90° from the sun. Always exceptwhen cloudy) and red/yellow because dust and particles absorb other frequencies. Or something like that.

Soviet super hit of 1965 sang by a 7 year old Georgian girl. The song became one of country's most favorite for the next 25 years.
