Unfortunately, for me that video contained aspects of everything i detest about jazz , the song irritated me , the crowd even more and the comments under the video made me shout at the tv lol , sorry Scott .

So I guess this just goes to illustrate how different our musical tastes are because I thought #9 was one of the least enjoyable. So much so that I had to jump ahead and find the scatting before leaving. I wonder, would you go on stage dressed like that?

There's very few varieties of jazz I don't like, I draw the line at Kenny G and the like though.....I really don't see the point haha.

I agree with Konzentr8, Anita O'Day is chichi and soulless. Although I am sure she and the likes of so many of "Jazz" singers, Al Jarreau for example, could probably impress me if they just sang the song from their heart instead of from thier head.
It's like some fancy plate of food with little bits of twisted leaves, dribbles of colourful gunge, sprinkles of exotic herbs and powders, a few fancy cut veggies, and some unidentifiable things, all of that arranged around what is probably a good, if somewhat small and expensive, steak.
Just give me a juicy steak willya!

I don't know how much of that is actually scatting or the bizarre words of the tune. I did hear the vocal percussion sounds of a tabla drum just like Sheila Chandra used to do on "Speaking In Tongues" before she was rendered mute.

I thought my Lisa Young post might get a comment. She is singing Konnakol – South Indian vocal percussion. I don't think there are any words as such, just sounds the imitate various types of percussion.

Is it Indian scat singing ?
