Thanks To System 7 For His Rec On Monacor HT-22/8

Thanks to System 7 for his recommendation of the Monacor HT-22/8 cone tweeter and one of his suggested crossovers. I've been curious about this tweeter but have held off since they are not available in the states. I decided to take the plunge and order from a German dealer on ebay and was very pleased with the service. I used the Steve's attached crossover with the Monacors and a couple of whizzerless old Radio Shack 40-1354 I had laying around. I compared Steve's 3rd and 4th order
XO's for the Monacor and found the 4th order more to my liking. Here is my budget special using plywood found at the curb and old growth pine for the front baffle. They sound really good. No measurements because I can't do that but, really pleased.

Thanks, @Galu (for tipping me off here) and @TubaV for his project.

This is a trip down memory lane!

I think I remember it:

@samadhi got it into his head to build a WLM Stella clone using a Visaton W130S and a TW70 cone tweeter and do this arty WLM style picture:

It was a sure fire winner since we knew it would work with the right crossover:

The swap to a Monacor HT22-8 tweeter was not too radical.

Actually, I must try that tank notch again, the 22R and 0.56uF across 1mH coil. Maybe 1uF for my 8" bass.

It acts around 7kHz, which is ideal here for 5" woofers which all tend to breakup around there. 🙂

Thanks for sharing all your crossover knowledge/experience. While wiring up my (your) crossover, I experimented with the 3rd order version versus the 4th order version. The 4th order was more refined. I also took the tank notch in and out of the circuit and could hear greater clarity in the Radio Shack 40-1354 woofers so I left it in. I searched a great many of your posts using the Monacor. A lot of your crossovers were for 8" woofers instead of my 5 1/4" but it sounds pretty good to my ears. In spite of the junky materials I used, I'm really please with how they came out looking. Thanks again!

Troels Gravesen uses 22R and 0,56uF across the woofer coil in his Scanspeak Discovery 3WC mk1. Here he measured the effect with and without RC connected. Looks like it is centered around 4khz. Looks like it shaves of 6-7db, quite effective.
