Hi, I m intending on playing a 'test record' and then recording the output from my preamplifier that includes a phono stage into REW and then looking at the frequency response.

I have never used a test record before and wondered if this was ok for just putting 'white noise' in and looking at the frequency response?

I want to confirm that I don't really need to add an additional 100pF with an old Shure V15 as I have measured 300 pF from the cartridge in situ and the spec is 400-500 pF.

any experience appreciated 😀

There's a lot out there on this. I found this in a couple of minutes. The files in post #3 look interesting but there's a lot more discussion after that.
There are more threads on diyAudio and lots of stuff around generally. I would think by now there would be quite a few files around for doing this.

Actually the link is looking at the RIAA of the phono stage exclusive of the cartridge, and I wanted to use the whole chain including the phono stage and cartridge. I have already had some fabulous help redesigning my RIAA from clever and generous people on this forum, and I wanted to see the outcome as a whole. It sounds great but I just wanted to see out of interest, I can easily drop in additional capacitance if that looked like a good idea.

Ahh, sorry about that. I missed the link in your first posts. Selected theme didn't give it any contrast.

No experience with REW myself but that record you posted has both pink and white. I saw a post by a fellow using white noise and REW . His experience > " . . . . after a small exchange with John Mulcahy (REW author) , who was as helpful as always, I was finally able to perform measurements that actually agree with the hand ones, but with much greater resolution and accuracy."

This thread reminds me that there was a 3 year 34 page discussion of making diyAudio's own LP test record. It faded into the sunset. Too many diverging opinions I guess . . . .

what a shame we could not come up with a better test LP!
