Terry Cain's BIB -why does it work and does anyone have those Fostex Craft Handbooks?

WRT Gast³n's plight, they sell something called para-ply around here (or at least use to), which is pretty decent stuff made in Paraguay that we used to crate equipment to be shipped down his way and at least back in '94 when I last had current knowledge it was distributed in Selva Misionera (sp?), Argentina.

Cheers, GM !

Yes, there is ply manufactured in Paraguay and Argentina. It's made from sustainable resources (re-planted forests) in the Misiones province, hence the name of Selva Misionera, Misiones Rainforest (you spelled it right) and it gets all exported most to the US and the rest to the EU 🙁 .

What makes so difficult to source locally is that the construction industry is oriented to brick-and-mortar, the woodworking goes hardwood and/or melamine. So the manufacturers prefer to send their products to places where they will get better paid than here and let the locals have their own way the best way they can.

Thanks for the try 🙂

>>> That's on the long list. My short list contains P10's Fonkens and Ronc's Austin 166/168 Sigma, Changs and BIBs too...

Even tho i have a nice tube amp i really like the Sonic Impact amp. It works especially well with any of the Fostex based designs and saves you lots of money so you can work on your 'short list' without worrying about saving up for whats on your 'long list.'

Just my opinion.

The currently available Gen2 SI T-Amp is, in my testings superior to the original. It's more expensive, but mainly because it comes with a decent matching power supply. The case is flat instead of UFO shaped which makes it easier to deal with, and it has a headphone out jack, just in case. Since the Gen1 that Zilla's using isn't available anymore, this is your best and likely only bet. One important point, even though it doesn't look like the Gen2 is a serious upgrade from the Gen1, it does appear that they have fixed the bit of bass rolloff that the Gen1 suffered from, so it doesn't give the impression of being a bit beefier amp than the original, even though the power and distortion ratings are virtually the same.

avoiding voidy ply

Hello all, I've been knocked out by Christmas and new Year but have almost finished my 168ez BIBs. They were originally going to be rough prototypes but I've built them better than I intended and was thinking if I liked them I could veneer or paint them and they would be perfectly presentable.....HOWEVER the ply I have used is definately not void free. What affect do these voids have on the sound, I havent seen it discussed? Regards, Andrew

Don't get me started on another audio project. I read through the threads and I'm very interested. Anyway, I may to put this on the long list too many projects.

Anyway, I've got a SE tube amp and a Belles 150A. Belles has the "tube sound" but has power and is quiet. I'm running my amps/ preamps 240V AC through dedicated circuits and separate grounding/service panel. AC lines are all shielded (armored cable). Some DIY line conditioning. Anyway, this is off topic. Sorry.

Dear Scottmouse, I've just got infected with the BIB Frugal virus,
but is there no damping in the back chamber reading the thread and going totally
lost, are there any rules for the idiot to proceed as exp. the back triangele
you know, me the girl with the two fostex 200:whazzat:

If I remember régine's place had very tall ceilings, which might be a problem with a BIB with smaller drivers

I believe that was before we discussed that one can turn the BIB upside down, and put it on short legs 10 cm? so that the sound can
come out. and put at least one in a corner.. That way the ceiling height isn't an issue- except that the volume of the room is a lot maybe!

Apologies if you already know this..

exactly I was going to make two seperate inclosure's side by side . I was looking at the added SPL of the speakers and running the amp at 4 ohm's.
YES I have a very big room,I alternate between a LM3886 chip ad and a DIYHIFI ELLA el34 tue amp. so amp powe is limited to 60w and 30 w respectivly.
I do love the sound of the full range neo fone but sometimes add a fostex ribbon to the mix.
thanks for all the help .

Hi Verk ,I have got completly lost duing that thread... Do You have the actual cabinet spec to match the Neo -fones fo a bib??

Greets!

Who is Verk?

Anyway, at the bottom of the page is a 'search this thread' field and inputting 'neophone' yielded this: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=923945#post923945

That said, you can calc your own now: http://www.zillaspeak.com/bib-howtobuild.asp

Frankly, I'd use a 48.78 Hz Fs in a calculator to design one the same height as T.C.'s original BIB.

bib calculation

I have my fe127e BIB cabinet (yes one) up on the operating table.

I remember that after construction there was some error in the
terminus measurement due to the thickness of the interior baffle.

this was before calulators and such IIRC.

Ok, the speak ran fine for months but just to satisfy myself (and because I'm testing a Harvey with the FE127e )I decided to
perform surgery.

The baffle width measurement is 6.75 in. I'll go look for an area calculator too.

Can someone run the BIB calculator to get the depth?

I don't have Excel on here.

Also going to modify the pennant.

Should the pennant be pointed as in a triangle? The one I'm using
is the width of the internal baffle at the bottom (4.5 inches or so) by the diagonal measurement.

Ok good. and thanks for your patience.

Once I got the back piece loose I have a lot of flexibility but I'm using the same bottom position at the a-b-c measurement from the original.

On one of these pc's I have open office and I think that can load the xls file but I'm not very up to snuff on software that is used in offices routinely.
