Terminology question

Is the Bride of Son of Zen preamp the same preamp refered to as the Balanced Zen preamp? Sorry, I'm new to this game.

Your search for enlightenment is over, my son...they are the same.
There are presently (unless & until Nelson posts a new one) two "Zen" preamps: the original Bride of Zen, which is unbalanced, and the Bride of Son of Zen, which is balanced. Due to the length of the name and the fact that most of us are lazy typists, the balanced preamp is frequently referred to as BOSOZ, or the Balanced Zen, or sometimes simply Balanced Preamp.

Nelson also called it "Balanced Line Stage", a basic design and another with "Trimmings".

Gentlemen:
Thanks for the help. In addition to the preamp, I would like to build an amp (or pair of amps as the case may be) to go with it. Do you have a recommendation (Son of Zen, Aleph, or other non Pass design)? Keep in mind I am "electronically challenged" (I have put together Bottleheads' Paramour amps and Foreplay preamp, so I am "educable")

Depends on the power and sound quality you want, not to mention practical factors such as cost and heat dissipation. Most any amp will work with those preamps--it's just a question of where you want to go.
