I would have thought that the answer would be "Maplins" but no.
Where can I buy them, specifically M4 thread?

Sign of the times !!!
Maplins only seem good for mobile phone stuff and car decorations, now.
Going the same way as the old Tandy did before they sold out to CarPhone Warehouse

not U.K., but in Sydney I found some in my local hardware store (Bunnings) in the furniture fittings section (next to screws, bolts etc...)
If you're after a local pick up, then screwfix, b&q etc. will all stock Tee nuts.
Personally I think insert nuts are far superior:

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Only if you want M6 or M8. Cheers anyway.then screwfix, b&q etc. will all stock Tee nuts.
I could have sworn screwfix had them, but you're right. how daft is that. Well I have a bag of 500 lying around which I'll never use. I can pop some in the post to you if you like. Just send me your address.

Cheers Vikash, PM sent.
I'd like to fix this issue for everyone though. Surely everyone uses them.

Maplin used to be great for audio projects in the 70's and 80's.
I built their 225WRMS amp for a disco and it was magic.
For some reason they discontinued those types of projects.
They still do a few low power amps.
Maplin still have a reasonable range of stuff for audio projects but I am finding I am having to buy more from RS and off ebay due to the lack of coverage of less common components.
that was when 225W was BIG! I bought a 125W kit which I binned a couple of years ago. I wish I kept it. I just blew a 100W powered monitor. I don't think that they sell anything that big now.
