Well unless they plan to re-create the SP-10 motor its going to be pretty much the green motor as used in millions with a more integrated controller I would guess.

I'd guess a 1200 motor and micro based controller. The platter in the picture looks just like a 1300, IMO.
In that very brief article, I believe I saw at least five indications that I will not be able to afford this turntable.

I think, there's a good chance that it will not be the proverbial green Motor, but a refined version.
Technics got a patent granted in 2006 dealing with refined core structures to reduce cogging.

All old Companies which relaunched their classic/new products are expensive. Compared to old times, the current small market doesn't give them enough margin to sell at different class of buyers. Just for the fun of guessing I think new Technics turntable will be more than 1200 US $.

It uses a "coreless" motor so it would not be the SL1200 motor.
It looks curiously like a JVC type of coreless motor, which is a good thing to me as it always sounds smoother to my ears.

It must be said that audiophiles were begging Panasonic for a new turntable. There was no indication that a turntable was to come. Never was Panasonic going to make another turntable. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!!!

Panasonic is accelerating further development of this technology with a view to market launch in 2016 under the Technics hi-fi audio brand.
In conventional analog turntables, sound quality degradation caused by tiny vibrations of the motor and rotational speed fluctuations has been a major challenge. To overcome this challenge and assure smooth, highly-stable rotation, Panasonic has developed a new direct drive motor and redesigned high-precision motor control technology. This makes it possible to reproduce the warm sound and subtle nuances of musical expression engraved in the analog record grooves.
The newly-developed direct drive motor has the following features:
•Coreless stator design that eliminates cogging3
•Twin rotors that reduce bearing load and minimize tiny rotational fluctuations (wow & flutter), while maintaining high torque
•Oil impregnated high-precision bearings that minimize unwanted vibrations during rotation

In a direct-drive turntable, the turntable platter spindle is, in fact, the shaft of an ultra-slow servo-controlled motor.
IFA 2015 consumer electronics exhibition held in Berlin, Germany, Friday the 4th through Wednesday the 9th of September.
Cogging is motor speed ripple arising from the rotational angle dependence of magnetic attraction between rotor magnets and stator windings.
Minimized cogging assures smooth rotation and enables precision servo control.
Technology that switches stator winding drive mode between high-torque startup and normal platter speed, which requires accurate rotational speed control.
This uses an encoder to detect rotational position at high speed, together with a compensation table based on load fluctuation factors on bearings and other variables, thereby enabling adaptive individually-optimized control.

Never really studied DC motor design before so learning some interesting stuff from this. I'm more interesting in repurposing old motors. Maybe the Sony pancake I have sitting on a shelf isn't such as dog. But its only 2 phase and run by a floppy disk controller IC!
