Technics SLT as a arm donor ?

So- I have this four pillar Oracle Delphi modified by a guy named Slindy from somewhere here in Wi. Gave up on the Rabco arm he modded that came with this table. Problem with this table is it's really set up for a SLT - I'd like to mount a low mass arm (or arms - it's big enough for two or three) - but the problem is that the mounting platform to turntable platter height is a little under 1 " (25mm) - as near as I can tell almost all arms require 25mm between the arm mounting service and the top of the platter - more is within limits - but the 25mm is it for min height. Top plate/arm mounting are is a big piece of polished 3/4" plex -don't want to beat this up or even worse gouge or break it making a very large hole so that a platform could be mounted at the bottom for a conventional arm.
Have recently had a St. Paul on the road experience with the REALLY cheap Technics SLT tables - these are simply wonderful matched with Grado p-mounts. It has occured to me that scavenging the cover/arm from the BOTL SL-J1 I have here -a little hacksaw/dremel tool work and just fooling some of the automation /sensors and this might be doable ?
Compared to a lot of the projects on this site - looks reasonably straightforward - anybody else transplanted a Technics SLT arm ?
