Technics SL-1650 turntable arm tracking problem

I'm new here. My father in law gave me a 40 year old turntable over the holidays. I've replaced the cartridge and it plays single records fine. But, if I try to use the changer/stacking thing and play multiple records, the arm tracks to the middle of the record, drops and slides all the way across the record, lifts up, then does it again...not good.

Any ideas on how to resolve this? I'd love to be able to play multiple records. I've read the manual, so I'm 95% sure I'm setting it up right. The arm just can't seem to find the edge of the record to play it. Thanks in advance.

Most people who play records would probably agree that stackers are not a good idea.
Enjoy the process and maybe change to another model without the stacking feature if you want to get into vinyl. If you bought a decent cartridge you can put it on another arm.

If you want to keep the feature, you could turn the player over and take the bottom cover off and see if something has come adrift or out of sync. There are online manuals for most machines that may help. You might also want to make sure the anti skate feature (if it has one) is working correctly and make sure the turntable is level. It's weird that it tracks half way then shoots across.
