Technics EPA-100mk2 knowledge appreciated

Hi All!

I have an opportunity to buy technics SL-1000 with epa-100mk2 tonearm. It`s an EX-TT from YLE (Finnish Broadcasting Company). I have seen some pictures from the unit but the images are not in very good quality and the turntable is located pretty far from me. I can see from the pictures that the TT is missing the anti skate adjustment wheel/indicator. Does anybody have any knowledge how big off an issue this is? Is it simply missing the "adjustment wheel" and maybe otherwise ok and functional or could this be indication off some bigger problem?

I know this is speculation but I would really like to know how big off a problem this could potentially be.

The image attached is from similar unit and with similar problem recently sold in an auction for parts.

Thanks!

Doesn't affect functionality at all. The dial indicator would normally be glued on top of the tarnished metal piece you see in the pictures. I've seen someone scan and print one out of glossy cardboard, cut it out, and glue it in place.

Be prepared for grease that has turned to glue in both the VTA and AS mechanisms, and if it's been mishandled at all there's an excellent chance of damaged ruby bearings. All can be fixed as long as the pivot screws don't have too much factory glue or corrosion on the threads. I've had two that I couldn't get apart because of that, though EPA-100s, not MK2.

Thank you! I can see small dots of red something in areas where there are adjustments. Maybe there is some "red stuff" used to lock things in place...
Really tempted on this one. I have disassembled/assembled SL-1200 tonearm assembly few times. How complicated this EPA is compared to SL1200?

Or just used as index marks.

You can get to everything you need to get to without touching the bearings, except the anti-skate spring. Most of the time you can leave the spring alone, but sometimes the old grease on it needs cleaned off to prevent it from sticking to itself. Sometimes the tab that is soldered on to the spring has broken off.

You'll need to remove the nameplate from the bottom to access the screws, and desolder the wires from the connection cap to separate the base. If you do that I'd work loose the VTA adjustment ring as the glue on that is going to break own and let go, so may as well clean it up and glue it back on while you have it apart.
