TEAC Reel to reel recording problem

OK, so these are variable caps in the oscillator circuit. I still don't think you can use fixed values there because bias requires fine setting to achieve minimum distortion and noise in recording. Note that the two varicaps are responsible for normal and high bias setting, which means you can still test recording on bias setting where the varicap is OK.

Turk182, sorry for the late reply been busy.

Yes I have a A-3340S, A-3440 and a A-4300SX.

I will be back later after I catch up on the thread.

if you can't find 200pf you can use a 8.5-120pf from Jameco and if needed you can pad it with maybe a 15Pf to 82pf fixed value to get it in the center of the range if you need.
I doubt that you would ever use it a 200pf as this would be a very high bias and way over the adjustment hump.

RFparts also has some trimmer caps with that range but they are sandwich types and may be hard to mount and may need frequent adjustment if jared around to much but they would work, They also have trimmer types as well that may work in that range.

FWIW
