TDA8932 How to set the gain lower?

That TDA8932 is almost a home run, except they've got the gain set too high. How should we go about fixing that?

For a gain of less than 30dB stereo or 36dB mono bridged, use a balanced attenuator at the inputs.
This is a resistor in series with each input, and a shunt R between them across the inputs,
bearing in mind the 100k input impedance.

I should have asked a better question! I'd like more negative feedback for quality reasons. In the question involving "set lower gain" I'm referring to closed loop gain. Probably "supplementary negative feedback" will be involved? If so, how to go about it with this particular chip?

Is it reasonable to assume that a resistor series to pin 12 will decrease the gain?
