TDA2040 vs LM1875T for guitar amp

Hey,

Picked up a Crate GX40C a few days ago. It's a pretty cheap amp but built well enough. Dual 8" drivers, two channels, spring reverb, chorus, the works. Clean channel sounds pretty nice, gain channel is, well, um... at least it works...
I thought the amp clean sounded good enough to use with a pedal so I kept it. Was bored so I decided to open it up and see what the bastard has inside. Found the pre to be mostly full of 5532s, tantalum caps and electrolytics. Nothing special, not wasting my time on that. In the output I found two TDA2040s, and remembered I have two spare LM1875Ts left over. They should be fairly well matched so I thought maybe I'd swap them out and see what happens.
Any idea whether it'd be worth it to swap them out? The 1875 should sound better, right?
What other mods would you guys recommend to make this amp better? Already checked for cheap LEDs in the gain channel, found none.
I know it's polishing a turd but that's all I can afford for now. 🙂

Meaning there will not be any change or improvement at all.
Focus on other points, not the power chipamps which are "transparent" to sound.

If you want BIG change, make a larger cabinet housing larger and better speakers.

A larger cabinet housing 2 good 10" or 12" will be a big game changer.

Think speakers such as Jensen MOD 1035/1050 or MOD1235/1250/1270 , killer speakers with reasonable price.
