I recently acquired an NEC 602 cdrom drive. I would like to entirely remove the S/PDIF interface from the output. As per a suggestion in this thread :

I would like to hook up the LRCLK, DATA and SIN outputs from the Sony CXD2510 IC directly to a TDA1543A. However, I can't find any TDA1543A's for sale. Are their any replacements which can take the same Sony data format on input and sound at least as good? If not, what other options do I have open to me?
Additionally, would a 74x IC buffer on input of the TDA1543A be of any benefit? I believe it was said that the digital signal on the DATA line is not as clean as it could be coming out of the CXD2510.

MCM just carries the TDA1543 NOT the A-model. The difference is that the former takes input in the I2S format and the latter uses data in Sony's EIAJ format. I would rather not have to use any conversion circuitry.
From looking at the datasheet for TI's PCM1792 it gives the list of supported formats as:
16-, 20-, 24-bit standard (right-justified) format
24-bit MSB-first left-justified format
16-/24-bit I2S forma
Is the the EIAJ (CS-340/CS-1201) standard among these?

TDA1543A accepts 24bit right adjusted format which data is 16bit two's complement with MSB first.
I have tried other formats, it doesn't work.

As do many other dacs. What makes the the Sony format different is the fixed 48Fs serial clock.
