Hi, how do they sound in your cdplayer/DAC ?

Bought the tda1541a and s2 from you. here's my comment on s2, as requested.

More airiness amongst the musical instruments. So unplugged guitar performances sound more "live". i could hear more nuances with fingering/fretting on the guitars. Cellos sound sweeter too. Tonality and timbre about the same between the two. i think that's the sound of TDA1541. i'm glad with the sound.

currently, i'm using NOS mode without SAA7220. it gives loads of detail this way. still looking for ways to improve it. 🙂

btw, n2 = s2?

I can extract from your question that S2 does not differ that much from N2. The answer is officially "no" as N2 has worse specs according the datasheet . But soundwise these 2 do not differ that much. Maybe someone who has the equipment could measure them. They come from the same production line which was pretty precise. I would not be surprised if they measure darn well too.

When you compare either 1997 S2 and/or 1998 N2 with the older chips the differences are much clearer. I do not regret selling nearly all S1 ( before I found these ) that I had as these N2 sound better to my ears.

Chip arrived yesterday. I have not put it in yet, but will report back when I do. Curious as to how the N2 is designated in the markings? Is this the "2" which follows the HSH9804 marking?

Thanks again... probably should have bought a couple or 3 of these.

best regards,

Chris

There are some left but they sold pretty fast the last weeks.

Try them and if you're happy with them you can buy some more 😉

Just don't wait too long if you want some more or they'll be gone.

I also think that it is just the 2 that means N2. On the box it clearly says "TDA1541A/N2".

OK, the last ones are waiting for shipment. No more discounts this time as I am pretty sure some of the chips I sold will turn up on ebay any time for quite a higher price I sold them for myself.

15 Euro per TDA ex shipping. Shipping within Europe is about 2 to 3 Euro for most countries when packed in a chip rail + padded envelope.

After having built more DACs than a sane human could ever use I will let go all my remaining TDA chips (except for some spares). I have less than 10 left.

Strangely I use my older Wolfson WM8740 and CS4397 DACs now, I guess I got control on my TDA addiction. TDA still sound somewhat more analog but the convenience of building dual supply Wolfson chips with transformer coupled outputs ... And they are oversampling types too, it feels like a confession on an AA meeting telling this 😉

Sorry, every human is full of compromises.

BTW I also have a full tube of TDA1545 (SMD !!!) and some TDA1543. All new.

Hi, these have a sonical character that is definitely better than old S1 chips from the eighties. They resemble the S2 from Taiwan a lot as can be read in post #23. They measure not as excellent as S2 chips of course but they are also way less expensive. A poor mans S2 so to speak 😉 If you are still looking for NOS S1 types don't look no further.

I sold my very last spare S1 very recently and only have some new N2 chips. Maybe, just maybe I have some special types. Will check for you.

edit: the only different TDA I have left is a Taiwan N2 2004 TDA1541A as sent to me by Marantz and a 1996 N2 from Revox, both new. Since I had my doubts about he genuinity of this 2004 chip I never used it. It should be original and it certainly looks original. I can only guarantee the batch of 1998 taiwan chips I have as I bought a full box of them with all the original paperwork.

edit 2: I also found some brand new CS8412-CP (2002) while I was looking in my stock.

All chips have been sold except for one N2 1998 chip.

I give it away for free with some extras to the person that can write a good original somewhat longer poem about the meaning of life or love (or the one you love) in what ever language you speak. This means that an english, german, dutch or turkish translation (all 4 languages are understood) should be with it in case you write in Farsi, Swahili, Japanese, Urdu etc.

This could be a sensitive poem but also a cynical poem would be fine. You can PM me and afterwards send me the poem as an attachment preferably in *.doc/*odt/*.pdf format. The contest will close on tuesday the 21st of September. All poems will be read and the best one will be chosen on highly subjective criteria.

No already written poems please but an original self written fresh one ! In case writing a poem falls heavy on you a well written essay about the same subject is also welcome. Maybe your partner in life/brother/sister/mother/father/neighbor can assist. Think of at least 2 x A4 pages (more is even better) with food for the soul.

Jean-Paul - NOT an original but a GROOK by Piet Hein for your pleasure:-

A Lifetime is more than sufficiently long,
For people, to get what there is of it, Wrong.

Jean Paul,

I just read this whole out-of date thread, and I want your last chip badly, but the contest has finished with no entries I can see. I have a single N2 - I bought the last one off a guy on eBay who had a batch of 400. I am making a 2x chip DAC, and want a matching chip, but can't find one like mine anywhere.

Anyway, here is my entry into your already closed competition. I thought about passing along a poem on the meaning of life by my 92 year old maternal grandpa, written and published at 92 years old, but that would be cheating. He is England's oldest still published poet, called Cliff Ashby.

I, however, am not really a poet at all, as you will see. Anyway, here it is, for what it's worth:

The meaning of Life.

Which word in the title shall I deal with first?
That of "meaning"? The poser itself, the question so broad.
Or "life"? A bubble of wonder onto earth it burst.
Seeking answers to these is such a double edged sword.

But as I consider the meanings, the words,
This word "the" seems to cause consternation,
Assuming that there is a single truth in this world,
A meaning to life, objective, universal.

So human, this question, so hard to decipher,
And yet cursed, only we toil to question it all,
The birds in the trees sing to the great maker,
And we, so complex, question this mortal coil.

Wise men have pondered the meaning for all,
But those with meaning in their lives care less,
For they are singing already, like birds to God,
And the wise men, so wise, are depressed and vexed.

So if you wonder the point of it all,
Find some quick, before you think all is lost,
The reason for life, the meaning is all,
In the mind of the thinker, who thinks least has most.

Love, for some, holds reason enough,
The embrace of life and it's wondrous verse,
A selfless act, in joy,can make life seem worth,
The pain and sorrow of humanity's curse.
