TDA date codes
Ruach.
These same coded chips are now being sold by audiotek168 on E'Bay. Mine did not work (twice).
Did yours ?

Hi, I did not buy the chips as I felt that these might be remarked chips.
I am very careful now when I deal with suppliers from China, Thailand and Indonesia.

Not wanting to threadjack but:
I still have genuine 1998 TDA1541A for sale. Absolutely genuine Philips ( Taiwan production ! ) chips in original packing bought from LG/Philips in the Netherlands.

Hi jean-paul.
Thanks for your info on this and other subjects. I may be in touch, how much are they by the way ?
Regards.

How do you read the date codes on these? I think that I have bought a chip a couple of years ago (maybe longer) from dht-thai, but have never tested it. I don't seem to recall getting it from Ebay, but may have gotten his name from there and contacted him. Now you have me worried, although I don't recall paying a huge amount for it.
The only device I have available is my Rotel 855, which the DAC chip is not socketed. I do have some good sockets, so I may remove the original DAC chip and socket it so I can test the (2) other 1541as that I have. I assume these will work OK in a socket?
Bought this last year from Charles Hyde Ltd. (authorized Marantz parts distributor in UK). I ordered a TDA1541A S2 😀 and this is what I got
Sorry for crud photo, the text was engraved white. Was this from the final batch? Anyone got a later one?
(BTW I returned it for a full refund)

That is exactly what I did to my Arcam Alpha to test half a dozen used TDA1541As that I got off eBay. Had no problems with the original chip or the player. You'd want to be fairly careful desoldering it though, it wouldn't be to hard to destroy the chip doing this.
I see that the trader on eBay that I got these chips off is now selling some of these suspect date coded chips. The ones I got from them were from various date codes '88 to '95, no picture was provided in the auction.
When did production of TDA1541As stop anyway, '97, '98?
Checked the two I have tonight and they are 95 and 89 date codes. I may go ahead with socketing the one in my Rotel... I do alot of soldering/DIY so don't feel too intimidated with it. I'll let you know when I "brick" it (I liked that phrase Jean-Paul... hehe).
I went ahead and removed the stock TDA in my Rotel and put a socket in. The original and both the 95 and 89 chips that I have work fine.
Hi
