What is the purpose of those caps?

I'm looking for inexpensive ones to use for that, something that costs less than 1$ per cap.

Is the 0.1uF value important? I saw that Thorsten uses a 15uF oscon on the MSB, why not using large ones on each pin?

What exactly are these caps doing?

Salut , Bricolo! 🙂

These capacitors are for smoothing the ripple caused by the periodic switching of currents in the chip..in the seven most significant bits and are externally connected.

At frequency that the DAC work i see no need to go for more that the capacity that philips give in the data sheet..

Au revoir! 😉

Like Peter Daniel I have used BG 0.1 uF/50V NX-HQ caps which costed me Euro 1,39 a piece. They seem to work fine but I have not compaired to other types.🙄

Best regards,
