TDA 2050 - Big Bada Boom!

The bulk price ex UK from Profusion is about 60 cents, as per @JMF in another thread, for UTC 2050. ($540 for 1000, IIRC)...

The real issues were that the power supply was sagging, common in those, a transformer with a higher current rating was enough. And maybe a bigger cap @35V, for safety, maybe 4700, IMO 3300 is enough for a 2030 based 2.1 amp.

Those 2.1 kits (here) use a 4558 to get the bass signal from the L/R, and the third chip amp is for woofer (sub) out.

The solution chosen was wrong.
Also, it seems that the computer speakers were in use for some time, and in proper working condition prior to this experiment.

And so, if you have bigger speakers, connect this 'crappy' board to those and hear the sound, you may be surprised.

After repair, of course....

Generic 2.1 boards are very cheap at the usual sites, at times not worth the bother of repairing a damaged one.
Put another one, if you feel like.
Thanks. I've no need to replace the board. I wanted to repair it for fun. I've learned a little more now . . . These generic 2.1 boards use a 2 x TDA2030 on satellites and a TDA2050 for bass. When one IC blew I had no way of telling which was which so I replaced all three with TDA2050s.
