I just sold to my brother my PSB B15 bookshelves that I used in my music system. I am going to build a new set of speakers, but not sure if going Single Full Range driver or Multi Driver speakers. While I make a decision, I have a pair of Tang Band W3-881SJ that at one time I had made mini-Onkens for them.
Is it possible to make a floorstander with the pair of TB's I have? Something like Mark Audio's Pensil? Or another design which a large part of the tower is sealed (not used)? What are your recommendations?

I can go with bookshelves also, since I have stands, but not a design that might get lost in the stand.
This might be worth experimenting with:
L = 56”
CSA = 41.463”^2 [recommend 5.06” x 8.2”]
Zdriver = 18.06”
Zport = 44.8”
Dport = 3”
Lport = 0.75”
All dims i.d. and approximate. 0.25 lbs/ft^3 of polyfil simmed.
With only 0.2 mm Xmax and tuned so far below Fs [specs calculate ~113.9 Hz], it may not play even as loud as this 1 W sim predicts below ~200 Hz unless there’s significant room gain. Still, in stereo in a small room it may be fine.

Thanks for your suggestion, especially for going thru the paces and simulation. Room gain will be significant, as it is solid concrete walls/ceiling with ceramic tiles on the floor.
You’re welcome! In this case then, do you have two corners for a pair of single fold ‘BIB’ pipe horns?

No, placement of speakers is centered in front of a 20' long x 8' high concrete wall with doors at each end, which do not allow for corner placement.
BUt, I and move furniture and equipment and place in a nook that is 78" long (concrete wall 38" high, then glass windows with aluminum frame until it reaches 8' high), and 18-1/2" wide. Then, the corners of the nook would be available for speaker placement.
I used the W3-881SI (must be pretty similar to the SJ) in a pair of floorstanding towers for my bedroom system. Still as happy with them today as I was when I built them.

Regarding the move from PSB Image B15 to fullrangers; definitely not a wrong move, IMO. A few years back I decommissioned my pair of Image B15 and built a pair of EL-70 microTowers. I never looked back. Since then I have built a pair of Pensil 10.2 and the next step is a custom design by Scott which will blend all the best qualities of the "Castle"-style microTowers with the finesse of Mark's latest drivers. I'll never go back to multi-way.

Cogitech, thanks! Actually my drivers are the W3-881SI, not SJ. I guess with every minute change TB changes the last letters in a part number, there was SI (discontinued), now, SJ and SJF. Checking specs, not much difference.
I had Image T45's, which I sold in favor of using my Image B15, which were more suited to the listening are. Though the T45's could reach lower, in my listening area they had too much augmented bass, and little "muddy". The B15's turned out to be much more controlled and more enjoyable to listen. I still have a pair of B25's that serve as mains in my HT setup, along with C40 center channel, and Realistic Min-18 3" Full Range speakers as rears, it is a 14' W x 17' L family room with 12' ceilings, so the setup is plenty for such room. Marantz SR-5001 is the HT receiver, which I will replace soon for either the newest Marantz SR-5008 or Emotiva pre/processor with 5.1 amplifier.
Anyways, I just came back from my local lumber store where I purchased 1/2" MDF panel (4' x 8'), and had them do all the cuts to build Bjorn's TABAQ design (thanks for making it available to all of us). I only have to assemble accordingly and make the holes for the drivers. I will get to that later today.
I have polyfill stuffing that I purchased at my local upholstery supply store, that I will use to stuff the cabinets, as instructed. I need some banana terminals/cups/plates for the back of the cabinets, but I'm not going to wait 1 week to get from PE, I will buy locally at Rat Shack (they have all of them on clearance at dirty cheap prices). There is an electronics store near my home where I buy all the resistors, caps, etc. for different projects, they also sell refoaming kits, cones and other speaker accessories, and they may also have terminals and such...Let's see how it goes.
The idea is to build a larger full range speaker, maybe bookshelf as I have some nice stands. Having said that, this morning I was at Lambda Audio Service, near my home, who is probably the best electronics technician in PR, to have him fix a Marantz 1060 int amp that is doing the dreaded snap, crackle, and pop (more expensive to fix than what it is worth). Anyways, he is now the Revel dealer for PR. Auditioned a pair of Revel Performa3 M106 bookshelves, and I was speechless; as my niece would say: OMG!!! He is giving me a good deal, so I might go for them, but I have to audition with my equipment. He had them hooked to a modified Mark Levinson amp and modified Mark Levinson pre, and as source was using a Moon Audio transport and DAC; much more hi-end than my McIntosh MX-113 pre/tuner, CJ MV-75 Amp with EH KT-90's, and my Jolida CD player.
Decisions, decisions, decisions!!!

I will probably start a thread on my bookshelf project. I want to build a hybrid OB similar to Tekton's OB4.5. Help on selecting drivers and x-over design will be appreciated, though I might have to start the thread in the multi-way forum, as it will use a 5-1/4" woofer and a 3" or 4" FR Driver.
