Fake news! Was that channel 5 by any chance? Did it get you all wound up as it was designed to do? Sorry for a moment there I imagined you were in the UK. You are forgiven, ha ha I think they are having to export that crap now....

The art of tattoo - or by whatever name you choose to call it, has been around for literally millennia, during which time it has probably signified many different things to the societies at the time.

Some of the gentlest and certainly most law abiding folks I know are inked, of course those will mostly be Canadians, so it's a given that we're generally "nice". - well except for those Pickton brothers, that guy on the bus, or that snooty Starbucks' barista, or on a bad day our shop foreman - and he's not tattooed (where it shows) .
Have you forgotten Barnardo, Homolka and Colonel Russel Williams? All nicely depraved.😉

By the way, I ride an Ironhead.

I just googled it, a Harley with cast iron heads. Many years ago, when I had a bikes (one was a Honda XL350 road/trail), I used to love baiting Harley riders; out-cornering, out-accelerating, out-manoeuvring, out everything. They gave me much pleasure and always left me wondering why anyone would buy such a useless piece of cr@p, except for one reason.

The world would be a really boring place if everyone made the same purchasing and lifestyle decisions. whenever people talk about someone elses hobby enjoyment as 'piece of crap' I really wonder what festering chip on their shoulder causes that.

It's fine to 'not get' someone else's hobby, but why pour such scorn on it just because you are hiding behind a keyboard and not facing up to them?

We have smart TV and spend most of our viewing time watching British programmes, PBS and Netflix. Got to be careful I do not use the Brit, "at the minute" or "somethink" and" nothink".😉
The Fake News story must be all over world.
I was born in the UK, it is certainly a different place to when we left 35 years ago.

Vive la difference! I love it. That's what I like about this place🙂

Back in the 70's, anyone riding a Jap. bike would make fun of Harleys (myself included), for the stated reasons. But we didn't make fun of the riders. It also worked both ways.

And we would all be driving Accords or Camrys and listening to music via MP3's through white earbuds.

We, who live in glass houses......

In my case a plastic house......and my stereo has several little glass thingies.....I used to work in a Motorola plant that, in it's heyday employed a few thousand engineers and other technical people. What did they think of our little hobby shop here, especially the glass audio crowd. Why?, was the usual first comment.

In a technical facility like that there were plenty of inked people. It was my observation that there was more ink amongst the salaried technical people that amongst the hourly paid assembly line workers. Both the "sleeved" guys were engineers, and both good people.

Well said.

Tattoos are like all other art some good some not so good.

I long ago learned not to judge people on looks or first impression. If you do you will miss some of the best our race has to offer. You may not agree with a persons every choice but if you give them a chance you may find you have more in common then you could imagine.

My first and only tattoo was done over thirty years ago. The picture are not great but the tattoo still looks good in person. How long the tattoo stays looking good is in part due to the artist. When I got mine done I kept hearing "you have to relax...I need to stretch your skin when I put in the lines so they will be sharp later." It was done by Richie Piperiato. He patented the single use disposable tattoo needle.

I noticed on the local news tonight that all of the people on the local law enforcement "Most Wanted List" had tats visible in their arrest photos. Not condemning people with tats, but it does project an image that most people watching the news can't help but note, if only subconsciously.

I suspect most of my friends have tats. I know many do. Their choice.

I ride an Ironhead because I like old technology. I rebuilt everything in it including rebuilding the four piece flywheels.

I understand it isn't competitive with sport bikes, etc, but it was a great bike in it's time (1957 flat track racing). My riding style is mostly old two lane highways putting along at 45-60mph (70-95K/h).

To each his own.

If you make silly assumptions, you will probably be wrong. There is no "festering chip", unless you have a very vivid imagination. Now, unless you are the arbiter of what constitutes the "free" in free speech, perhaps you might not commit a further hypocrisy.

For a long time, Harleys were unreliable, badly suspended and had bad electrics and lighting. In an effort to improve, H_D fitted Japanese electrics, suspension and lighting and, BAM, the American icon became reliable. They are still an arcane device, for which I have no admiration. They seemed primarily for posing, given the shortccomings of their design.

It's fine to 'not get' someone else's hobby, but why pour such scorn on it just because you are hiding behind a keyboard and not facing up to them?
I repeat; If you make silly assumptions, you will probably be wrong. To some, being behind a keyboard changes what they would and do say, with others, it makes no difference. I can't speak for you though, it is possibly inferred, you may be in the former camp while I'm in the latter.

I am all for free speech, and freedom of expression (tats and piercings) and hobby choices. Heck I come from the country of Lucas (prince of darkness). People restore cars that history really should have forgotten. Good on them. People enjoy riding harleys. Good on them. Some people chose old stuff as its the rebuilding that gives them pleasure. Some want to turn the key and ride. Someone I know sold his Ducati because he also had a vincent black shadow and preferred riding that. It takes all sorts to make a world.

Free speech works both ways. I am expressing my freedom of speech in wondering why your writing seems so angry towards those that do not meet with your view.

For a third time; If you make silly assumptions, you will probably be wrong.

I'm not angry, only expressing my opinion. Would you rather I say "please, may I" before writing anything? The wearisome "angry" ploy wears very thin. I've seen it used in forums on many others, for reasons I can only fathom to be some form of psychological manipulation or care trolling, and wonder at the mental state of those who use it. They must be precious little petals for whom any form of candour forces palpitations of their sphincter.

Never understood tattoos on women; they always look out of place to me, like a bumper sticker on a Ferrari. Spoils the natural lines. 🙂

Don't have an opinion re: men, except for myself. My own body has always been kind of gross (worse as the years progress and gravity takes its toll), so I've never had any desire to decorate it or call attention to it in any way.

Each to his/her own, as always.

Certainly, I prefer not to be tatooed or pierced, by the following reasons:

1st: It doesn't match my personal taste (and also my taste on women, btw.).
2nd: If I had one and some time I'd decide to get rid of it, there's absolutely no restitutio ad integrum for the skin, as we say. Even laser removal doesn't do, there always will remain some scars.
3rd: For good reasons, in my country no one is permitted to penetrate one's body's wealthy surface for medical purposes, unless he has an academic degree in medicine or dentistry. Additionally, we have very resticted rules on hygienics, on processing medical 'tools' etc. This is adminstered, by means of laws, by public institutions, any violation will be charged heavily. OTOH, which degree do people need who want to run a so called Tatoo/Piercing Studio? Nope. There isn't any. Do they even have a clue, or education, on fundamental medical facts? I doubt on that. As a dentist I know what I'm talking about, and sometimes I really get upset on this inequity. And, looking on some people who enter these studios, I'm not sure that I wouldn't get infected by HIV or hepatitis if I'd also do so, unless this studio were run by a physician.

Best regards!
