Tangent RS8s / Dalesford 100/250

I've just reacquired my beloved Tangent RS8s from my dad's house - he'd been 'taking care' of them for 35 years until his passing. Unfortunately he must have done something to the woofers (or maybe they blew at some point) - not sure. Does anyone have experience replacing Dalesfords? I've been poking around the world for a few weeks but expecting an original pair to be pretty much impossible to find. Thanks!

I haven't looked at this in detail so you may have to do some more digging.

Loudspeaker surrounds do age, and storage conditions play a part as does UV in sunlight effecting foams and plastics. So that could be a factor.

The word pincushion is used to describe the shape of that style of 70-80 loudspeaker basket. For the larger bass driver which I assume is an 8 inch driver you could also try a search for KEF B200 driver replacement.
which may take you to Wilmslow audio in the UK where you cans see these words of advice.
"B200 bass - use Wilmslow WA-206 or Monacor SPH-210"

I do not know if it is an exact fit you may have to contaact them to discuss.

Sorry for the wrong steer. the RS8 images I found from a search looked like 8 inchers to me.

With a ten inch bass no wonder you want to get them running again.
Could you post an image so folks can see how they are mounted.

If you remove one of them are there any identifying marks or Dalesford type no's?

Per raymondj's datasheet and some other research I'm pretty sure the original woofers were Dalesford bextrene D100/250. As you can see from the photos my Dad had pulled them out at some point and was doing something (but with some damaged drivers as well - not sure what his plan was - he liked to tinker!!).

I need to pull the drivers out and see what's going on re replacing them; not sure I have the skills for this but intrigued with the potential result.

They are in remarkably good shape - veneers etc. and still sound pretty good in the mid/high (through the Yamaha A-1) even with the messed up bass. I doubt they were moved for 35 years.

Haha!!!!

Some serious tinkering going on there. 🙂

I think from your images the original Dalesford pincushion driver has been replaced by a differing round chassis driver. You can see the screws for the originals filling the holes.

The round driver is the replacement. It seems that too has succumbed to foam rot due to old age. I think in the spirit of you fathers hard work at keeping these going you should be able to do a similar fix and keep them going for some more years. I am sure in Canada and the USA there are many 10" driver re foam kits, or get them shipped to a speaker restorer. You are going to have to gently ease them out to make good a repair. I am sure they will live again for not too much outlay. Good Luck.
