My inexperience is frustrating...
I picked up a couple of different pairs of TangBands and am looking for some ideas on what to do with them. One pair is W4-657SH 4", and the other is W3-879S 3". Using speaker workshop and winISD, the vent is supposed to be over a meter long in a box that's roughly 3" x 4" x 2.5".
Any suggestions on making a speaker box for these drivers that's more reasonable in size? Maybe combining the 3" and the 4" in a box?
W4-657SH: Power Handling: 30 watts RMS/60 watts max *VCdia: 1" *Znom: 8 ohms *Re: 6.0 ohms *Frequency range: 65-16,000 Hz *Fs: 65 Hz *SPL: 88 dB 1W/1m *Vas: .22 cu. ft. *Qms: 3.32 *Qes: .43 *Qts: .38 *Xmax: 3 mm *Dimensions: A: 4-15/16", B: 3-3/4", C: 2-7/8"
W3-879S: Voice coil diameter: 3/4" * Nominal Impedance: 8 ohms * Re: 6.6 ohms * Frequency range: 105-20,000 Hz * Fs: 105 Hz * SPL: 86 dB 1W/1m * Vas: .06 cu.ft. * Qms: 7.22 * Qes: .65 * Qts: .59 * Xmax .5 mm * Dimensions: Overall Diameter: 3-5/8", Cutout Diameter: 3", Mounting Depth: 2", Magnet Diameter: 2-5/8"
I've thought about a BIB, but I'm hoping for something smaller.
Thanks,
Mike

Isn't the W3-879 basically the same as the W3-871? If so, there is a lot of info and projects in the Full-Range section.
(I never cared for the W3-781 as a full range).
The W4-657SH should have its fans, too.

I like the box above for my 4" TB drivers.
With the 3" TB drivers i've had good success simply using sealed boxes of reasonable size.
I cut up the wood to build a BIB for the 4" driver but never built it.

I used the TangBand W4-1052SD in a TABAQ design: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88787&highlight=
There's a few other threads if you search, and it seems most 3 or 4 inch TB drivers seems to work well in that enclosure.
I'm very happy with the result, and very easy to build and they are small and narrow -- which was necessary for my particular application.

This is my TABAQ with TB-W3-1878:

It sounds fantastic. The bass in driver is unbelievable.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Beautiful design and nice pic
curious to know what sub driver that is 🙂
The size for a traditional vented box for the W4-657 is around 4L, and the vent can be 1" diameter, tuned to taste (60-80 Hz). I nearly used this driver in the past, but went for the W4-656 instead.
