I've had good luck with roofing cement.
Just to help out here, I believe Nick is talking about "asphatlic plastic cement" aka roofing mastic or gum. While it may work, I suggest you resist putting it on a plastic horn.
Yet, good old tar. Works great and its cheap. Plus it has a lovely fragrance, lol.
for plastic I'd try some clay at first.

So I've heard, yes.wasn't the motor on the 3000b a altec microphone ran backwards?
So I've heard, yes.
Yes it's a diaphragm from a microphone that came out in 1935. There is no voice coil former, just the wire itself. Most have been fried and repair is near impossible. I read somewhere that they were used in labs for ultrasonic experiments.

The diaphragms are exceedingly delicate, I'd be a little wary of trying this one.
I'm looking into your registering issue this isn't the first time this has happened over there recently..

And yes the diaphragms are extremely delicate as they are just a microphone diaphragm in the 3000 series tweeters.
You may want to talk to Bill Hayes at Micro Mike Labs.. He is the only place that still has the diaphragms for those tweeters AFAIK.

They make acrylic roof mastic that you could mix with saw dust.
Probably won't help but when I have the same problem with female vocals I add a tad more bass from the amp and it seems to tame the shrillness. 😱

There is one because there's no space between the : and ( and one reason why I only use these brackets [ ] anymore.

Thanks GM and Cal ! 🙂
Luckily my 3000s are fine and don't need any work. IMF used mic diaphragms for super tweeters in the 70's, bit crossed them over at around 15k instead of 3k, but they also used the stock mic magnet. I really think this driver in a better horn could be something really special.
Above the main mode of the diaphragm they might work like a Manger bending wave transducer (if there is some damping). An Altec lover could think about combining them with a 755 unloaded.

I still say wrap them up tight in Ace bandage and hear if the resonance changes. If it does, that will tell you something. It's cheap, it's easy.

One should be enough for both horns.

OK your account has been created so you should be good to go. 🙂
The 3000 series tweeters are great sounding tweeters IMHO.. If you can integrate them without putting a lot of power through them, they work well. They are just so darn fragile.
