Hello Folks I noticed that there is some interest in the T15 MH bulbs from this thread http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10296&perpage=15&pagenumber=10
So I wanted to open a new tread for discussion with a appropriate title so we don’t get to off topic on the other tread.

What do you guys think about these bulbs I found?
400 W 5500 K Metal Halide Bulb $49
400 W 6000 K Metal Halide Bulb $55
400 W 6500 K Metal Halide Bulb $59
There is not much info on them but from the picture it does not look like they have a very long arc and they seem to have good color temps so the look good for diy projection. They cost a little more than the ones brainchild was going to buy but you don’t have to buy 12 at a time.

Thanks for the link jcbklyny it looks like the 6500k bulb would be good for me 32000 initial lumens, 24000 mean lumens, 12000 hours, 6500k Kelvin, 90 cri, 11.614 MOL, 7.283 light center length.
I guess it would be to long for your setup brainchild. Just a friendly suggestion (not trying to be in your business or a @ss or anything) is there any way you can make a longer bulb fit brainchild? Cut out a hole for the mogul base to fit? It seems the 11 > in bulbs are more common and you would be able to use the bulbs with higher color ratings.
I still think the 6500k bulbs are a little pricey but I was able to find the same bulb on eBay for $50 which I think is reasonable for the color temp.

Space Ninja, I really don't want to do anything ghetto to make my lamp fit. I'd like to find the perfect lamp for my enclosure because my enclosure is the smallest dimension to enclose a 15" panel. The above bulb would do the trick.

probably both

I'd like to look around for a day or so and see if I can get bulk quantities of the higher temp bulbs. I've also read that some people didn't like the 6k bulb color in their projectors *shrug*. I'll prob grab that 12er and if I can't sell them via this forum I'll ebay them individually.

best price

jckbklyny,

New they are $900-$1000/unit...WOW.

I found 150 pcs "new" pulled from equipment for $290/unit. A great price considering but we'd still need the LVDS controller and signal inputs. That puts the panel price at $400/unit or so...pretty high. Then there's the issue of raising $44,000 for the panels 🙂
