Just wondered if there’s a nice quiet motor that would replace my existing one that’s a bit noisy on my Systemdek iixe (external 110v ac output supply)?
I don’t really want to ditch the whole power supply & get the Origin Live one as it’s quite a cost and I just want to reduce the hum coming from the motor to my plinth.
I’ve tried damping the motor with gel type rubber and bitumen backed foil used in cars. It still hums.
Or is it worth getting a spare motor to disassemble & upgrade the bearings in this thing? (if that’s even possible without serious tooling which I don’t have unfortunately).

Try lubing it, and check the mains capacitor if it has one.
Some motors have a poor design or material unfortunately, and sometimes it is a wear related problem.

Hi, and thank you for your reply: I have oiled it with sewing machine oil which is very light. It doesn’t seem to get hot no. There is no capacitor sitting near the motor itself (I assume you mean the simpler type of power supply on this TT). Mine’s got the external power box with some sort of circuit design in it with an oscillator to regulate the power down from mains to 110v and most probably much lower current as well (I’m not electronically trained so apologies if my comment on current is nonsense here!). It is definitely 110v though and ac (the external power unit does not convert to DC and the motor must be AC as well I assume).
I know I could probably goes down the path of isolating it more effectively but it still leaves vibes going through the belt so a smoother motor action would be better.
Maybe I should contact Rega and see how if any of their motors might be a suitable voltage. Mind you, then there’s the pulley and I don’t know if I can adjust the speed (as in fine tune it) on my external power supply to make a new motor match correctly.

Try a different type of belt, keep it slightly less tense.

Might actually be the power supply that's the issue, not the motor. The PS must be pretty long in the tooth at this point, and could probably use a recap.

Cheers chaps - ill look at both of those. I honestly don’t know if either will work but it’s worth a try. Yes, the ps is some 20+ years old now. The deck hasn’t been hammered though as when I bought it there was only a few years before I also bought my first CD player (which I still have!) and thus I started exploring the ‘bright new world’ of doing digital. Over the years I’ve only used the TT fairly lightly.
However, I still like it to sound good and I’ve improved it from the original with an acrylic platter, adjustable pointy feet and the rear arm stub from Michel eng. I also recently bought an origin live belt which was a subtle improvement.
The motor hum may have been there all the time - I didn’t start ‘listening for it’ until fairly recently. I suppose I was oblivious to it before the advent of info on how to get a TT up to fine fettle on various websites like this one and others so it could be an awareness thing as well. Still, I would like to banish it if I can...
