SVA / trumpion lcd problem...

Well, I bought and dismantled an SVA VR-15a (office depot) and now it did not work 🙂 I reassembled it thinking that maybe I did not ground the board(s) properly, but still this odd symptom appears.

When I turn on the display, the backlights come on for a second and immediately switch off. However, the green light on the front of the panel stays green (not yellow). I think the controller (trumpion ZURAC2 t-0911) is OK, as I can adjust the monitor settings in nView (I have an nvidia gf4) and I can make the green light go yellow by 'misconfiguring' the display (100hz or 1280x1024 or others). When I return the display in nView to 1024x768@60Hz, the light goes green again. Seems like it should be working. The backlight stays off the whole time.

Now, I figured it was just a backlight problem, so I took it all apart again and shined light through the LCD to see if there was actully a windows desktop there... Blank screen, light goes right through. I can reproduce the resolution/refresh rate test just like before while it is disassembled. Now I start thinking that the actual LCD panel is toast.

Do most controllers kill the backlight if a problem is diagnosed with the display panel (parity error or bad CRC check or something)? What else can I try to save this panel?
