Sorry, I didn't still get it. Are you saying that high efficiency horn systems, due to their higher direct energy are more likely to cause ear fatigue and therefore are better enjoyed at lower volume? Am I close?

maybe you could have set this up as a survey thread - with a poll ?
for me, most times it is (g) but I've experienced (a) and (b) depending on which amplifier, DAC, speaker. My current system has been stable for a long time without causing any unpleasantness based on a solid state class ABC amp of my own doing (search for TGM8 thread) and a full range driver (search for Big'un Audio Nirvana 15") with source either an old Marantz CD or vinyl. So far haven't had any luck with DACs.

Isn't that what's known as short term hearing fatigue labelled as (a)?
Haha...heck no!
(a) Your ears hurt due to pain / fatigue.
I'm talking about too much pleasure to stand 😀
No pain or fatigue involved...
G - most of the time. And it’s usually TV/movies not music - some satellite channels are particularly bad, and many modern action movies just have TOO MUCH added bass. And I’m not always in the mood to rattle the foundation when it’s set so I can hear the dialogue.
B - when I’m just tired of listening, and it’s time for peace and quiet. Sometimes the lower setting is just “off”.
And of course, A - after I’m done with the full power test, and now it’s time to listen at a reasonable level.

Guitarist here.
When the stage level creeps ever upwards, and the band dynamics are suffering from everyone playing louder than everybody else and the instrument amps are moving out of their sweet spot; SPL is getting higher and higher.....
So thats probably reasons a to g inclusive.

Regarding choice F on neighbours and noise.
We have good relations with our neighbours and I regular bother them by asking to "listen" to my system from their living room. We share a wall.
If I'm trialling new speaks or have otherwise made major changes to the system I put the volume at higher than regular volume (say about the volume I might listen to a few favourite tracks when no-one else is home) then go next door to hear what can be heard in the neighbour's lounge room. I ask at what level it bothers them. Thus, my listening pleasure is increased because I do not have to worry about whether or not the volume is too loud for the neighbour.

I'm blessed in that none of reasons a- f apply.
I often think of my system's SPL capability as similar to an amusement park ride, like a thrilling roller coaster.
So it comes down to how long can i enjoy maximum peak intensity/joy/thrill. Kinda like sex Lol
That said, I do think there are many recordings that simply do not play well at high SPL. Or whose nature are of a softer beauty.
And many others that were made for cranking, even named for it.... James Gang "Made Loud, to be Played Loud" or Rihanna's "Loud" haha
So what stops the party besides 'can't stand the pleasure any longer' ??
Circuit breakers trip, cops, ....😛
This agrees with my experience. I'd also say (f), which is that I have to stop due to something else that needs attention.
Yes, there are good recordings and not so good recordings. But as the sound has improved, I find that I can play bad recordings really loud and get more enjoyment out of them. The only reason to listen to bad recordings is the music is good. A good system puts the bad stuff aside and lets you enjoy the music, IME.
When I want to have a conversation...
That one, or when the amp starts to audibly clip.

I reduce the volume when my daughter puts on that "slim shady" record.
However the volume goes up again once I replace it with Zeppelin or AC/DC... strange how that happens.
