Suppliers inside EU borders

RS components (world)
Farnell (world)
Distrelec (world)
TME (world)
Reichelt (eu)
US-based distribs like to play with their carts: every single part in another cart, juggling them together in one to save shipping and processing costs. Very nasty. I avoid those - I'm a purchaser for the company for 30+ years.

Digikey and Mouser are very similar company, also the pricewise are similar, but some components are only available in one of them, not both of them. When you submite a order, you will see the final cost including the freight cost, lead time, but I think they are not always shipped out from U.S,not sure about this.

Mouser and Digikey import to EU (Mouser to Munich, don't know about Digikey). So then they sell to you from an EU warehouse.
That means import duties are paid by them when they bring it into EU, which means it is contained in the price you pay.
The label on a Mouser shipment always shows Munich as origin location.
Not that they actually have stock in EU, this is all done electronically of course while goods are in transit.

@tavares_costa: have you looked into ordering from Mouser delivered where you are now? That seems the very easiest and painless way.

www.elpro.org is a German based supplier.

Although I usually get my stuff at TME.

I order at digikey and mouser on a very regular basis, never had any import duties. Both have no shipping above a certain amount.
Can't say which one is cheaper, that heavily depends what kind of components. Both can be deliver within days.

I quit ordering at Farnell, it's not interesting anymore after Brexit. Sometimes it takes weeks to get something delivered. All being delayed by customs.

Sometimes RS Online can be interesting as well.

I basically want to avoid customs, expensive shipping fees, and long transit waiting, and all the hustle of a regular import from the US

Can anyone give any insight about this matter?
Thanks in advance
It's Easy. About Mouser Electronics in EU: D-I-R-E-C-T D-E-L-I-V-E-R-Y!!!! What do you say to order a pizza? No difference. Package is delivered to the residential or commercial address you provide. No customs, no customs officers, no customs declarations are required, no customs brokerage and anything else you can imagine. But always ''DDP incoterms''!!!!!!!!!!!!

''Incoterms DDP
All prices include duty and customs fees on select shipping methods.
Free shipping on most orders over 50 € (EUR)'''. Example:

As for Digikey - I don't know. Maybe the same , I guess:

I’ve checked Distrelec, as they have some parts currently unavailable elsewhere and, it seems, that they discourage private customers to do any business with them. 😡
They charge 37€ for any delivery, regardless of total amount, while business accounts are charged only 10€ for the fast delivery inside EU. Pricing is comparable to that of Mouser, where you get free delivery on orders over 50€. Good bye Distrelec, we will never get to know each other. 😉

That may depend on the country. When you order from the Netherlands from the Dutch Distrelec site, the costs are 7.50 euro for 25 to 100 euro orders and 0 euro above 100 euro, see https://www.distrelec.nl/en/ordering/cms/ordering

Looks like Vejle RC Elektronik is still in business: https://www.vejle-rc.dk/ They're in Vejle, Denmark. I shopped there a lot in the 90s when I still lived in Denmark.

Also in Denmark...... A small company called EL-SUPPLY, has a quite extended stock with good prices.
Located on the small island of Bornholm. They usually ship within 24 hours. Website is only in danish though.

Not that I doubt you're right, and it doesn't make any difference in the end, but the origin on my latest Mouser and Digikey orders were Czech Republic and US, respectively. Could be some kind of trick to avoid either customs or taxes, or both. The net effect is less hassle and cost for me, which in some ways are great.
The tracking always start in the US for both, and US export restrictions still applies too.

@Boydk: I forgot about el-supply. They also have, or used to have, some otherwise hard to find (genuine) components that are likely only found (fake) on eBay or Ali.

Yes it could be different for different parts of the world. They can't avoid taxes and duties but can find the way to minimize them.
I think the key thing is that this is all done electronically on-the-fly, the parts don't really go to a warehouse in Munich, or whereever.
Another take-away is that it is normally a lot more hassle and costs to get it send to a friend somewhere in the world and then have him send it to you.
Direct to you is fastest, most reliable and generally lowest cost overall.

I usually use Mouser but some parts aren't available.
Who knows if digikey can sell in Europe without castomer having to pay for import taxes?
At least in Finland there is no difference between Digikey and Mouser as both charge VAT for B2C orders but no other taxes or fees (if over 50 €). One difference though is with backordered items: Mouser charges for these upfront while Digikey only when they are shipped. This may lead to surprises with Digikey if prices of backordered items change while waiting.

I usually order from Mouser.
No customs problems. Just they add VAT to the total and for an order greater than 50€, no issues
Is easy and very quick. Orders put on Monday morning are in my hands on Wednesday lunch time
I've less experience with Digikey. Long time ago it was a nightmare. Have to pay duties and delivery process taxes.
The last 2 orders from them worked the same way as Mouser. Goods price plus VAT and is done
Sometimes I use Farnell. They don't deliver to PT for individual customers but my local electronics shop is an affiliated to Farnell.
In this case I just send them an email with the required goods and I get it on the shop. Prices as stated on the site plus VAT
