"Tube-like Sound...."
Good one.

Well.. Big Rich at SI was supposed to send me one when they came in. As of last week he didn't have any. Will have to bug him again. Stay tuned.

Hmmm, wonder if it's based on this board . Same manufactuer.
I like the looks of the Flying Mole stuff - nicety built. Wonder what sort of class-d flavor it is?
Maybe I can beg a sample off them, and have a listen.

I am keen to try the integrated ca-s3 because the bigger mono amps have been getting rave reviews.
Since I run high efficiency speakers at low volumes I definitely don't need more than 30W, so don't need the mono's power.
I am planning a neat little system:
DVD Transport
Behringer DEQ2496 (digital room correction only)
Non-oversampling DAC (possibly Monica 2)
Flying Mole CA-S3
Loth X BS1/FE207E Voigt Pipes
I like the idea of trying to overcome the frequency response concerns of full-range speakers without resorting to passive filter networks.

Anyone think the difference in dynamic range between the standard and the super t-amp is important? The standard t-amp's dynamic range is 102db while the super t-amp is 98db.

Good one.
better would be the tube amp with class-d like sound 😱

Right
Why would flying mole advertise "tube sound"? Just that would keep me from buying it. Why don't they just advertise gritty distorted compressed sound - at no extra charge? 🙂
Flying mole has never been able to ship within years of their target dates anyhow.

Crikey! What kind of tube amps have you been listening to? Gritty? Compressed I can understand, with a bad amp. A truley fine tube amp is anything but compressed or gritty. Oh well, to each his own tastes.
BTW, I heard back for Flying Mole in Japan. They do not sell amp modules, only completed amps. So no easy DIY on those guys. Might follow up to see what the ready mades are like.
Shoud have a Super-T soon, too.
Not the same board, not the same filter, not the same input config, not the same pot, not the same connectors, not the same power supply.
Same chip, tho.

Sonic t amp
Right

They advertise tube sound because many tube amps sound excellent. However i doubt that this one does. I don`t understand the anti tube amp bias that some people have. Some tube amps sound poor but there are others that sound wonderful. Have a listen to a few and see.
Steve.

Do you think maybe they have the output devices are sockets so you can replace them periodically when they wear out?
Anybody have links to wear and tear on output transistors in class-d amps?
Or for that matter wear and tear on tubes in amps? (All I can find is manufacturer's spec that say to change the tubes 6months to a year)
Nevermind - we don't want to turn this into a tube verses transistor non-productive thread.

Got One!
My Super-T came yesterday. I'll hook it up today and start listening/burning in.
1st impression? It sure is heavy! Big case, line lump style SMPS 12V 3A. Solid build quality. Good connectors.
I'll crack it open and have a look inside.

1st Listen
Had a to listen to the amp last night. Sounds pretty good. The Blond and I got up and danced around the room.
So - doesn't sound much like its little brother, the original Sonic Impact. Plenty of bass, no particular shrillness, a good sense of power, plenty of gain.
Nice detail, very good on drums and cymblas, like all Tripath chips. Might be a bit thick in the middle, a lack of detail. Need to do some serious listening and stop dancing.
Out of the box- not bad, not bad at all.
More to come, with photos of the amp guts.

New Info
I've put up a new page on my site dedicated to the new Super-T.
See here. The Super-T Amp
Looks like a promising start for a good DIY modified amp.

Excellent review so far. Very nice job with it all, and thank you very much. I may order a Super T after all.
I don't like the switch mode power supply idea, but hey, it is only a 30W amp I guess. Nor do I like the electrolytic as the input cap, as you pointed out. but these are easily changed to anyone's liking...
Thanks for the review,
Ron
