We have a lot of laser effect lights and someone told me that the sun destroys the laser in them. Is that true? If so why does sun light distroy them?
Yeh. We have those laser lights that make those patterns, the ones they use in clubs and my mate said not to let the sun light shine on it because it damages the laser inside. Ever heard of that?
No, I haven't heard of that and I think he is pulling your leg as I hinted at in my last post.
For the benefit of our international audience, "pulling your leg" means having a joke at your expense.

Hey if you are not sure dont point them at the sun. not much point anyway the sun is brighter you would never see it lol
when I first read the post, my first thought was a laser powerful enough to blow up the sun. 😀
The sun might be able to destroy the laser if you operate it under the sun causing overheating and then burning out the laser in it.

I too wondered how I was intended to parse the ambiguous phrase.when I first read the post, my first thought was a laser powerful enough to blow up the sun.
I would skip the hear-say and contact the manufacturer. Sunlight does bad things to phosphors, but I can't think of anything it would do to a gas discharge tube. Probably not great for a semiconductor. How much sunlight do you get inside a nightclub?
Or taking the ****?😀No, I haven't heard of that and I think he is pulling your leg as I hinted at in my last post.

Got my hopes up for sure. I was hoping to hold the World ransom for One Million Dollars!😀I too wondered how I was intended to parse the ambiguous phrase.
Haha lol. We hire and sell laser effect lights, strobe, black lights and dj equipment etc.... and we have an assortment of lasers hanging up near the window which gets about 7 hours off direct sun light a day. I don't know what sort of laser is in side but I think the cheap ones may be a laser diode like a laser pointer.
Maybe your friend meant that sunlight will wash out the laser effect. They can be hard to see in full sunlight. 🙂

I think there have been more then a few disappointed members on that front😀
'Sun-destroying lasers' could be a report in a military technology magazine about the latest toy to emerge from certain Government research programs.
'Sun destroying lasers!' could be a tabloid newspaper report alerting us to the alarming prospect that some change in the Sun's nuclear machinery means that it now harms all our lasers so CD/DVD players etc. will all cease to work within the next few months unless we put the right magic crystals in the room to divert the Sun's bad influence.
What would a text reading robot make of it? And what would a text reading robot make of 'text reading robot'? How can a text read anything? Why should I send an SMS text message to the robot in Reading (Berkshire, UK)?

I had the pleasure to talk to the head of the IBM Watson project. He was very proud of their natural language parsing. I reminded him of an old Second City skit. Two guys were sitting on a park bench watching the world go by. For 5 minutes, the only thing said was "eh". Watching, you could follow the conversation exactly. I doubt any computer will ever be that smart. (I do happen to be a computer scientist)
I always wondered about the old movies where the great white hunter asked for his trusty elephant gun. Why would you want to shoot a trusty elephant?

We could only hope. Given that many LEDs are photsensitive, and sometimes used for dual purposes , can we be 100% certain that exposure of some laser diodes to direct sunlight may not cause some degradation?
