Can anyone help me out? I'm going to buy a sump pump before the spring thaw hits, but I really don't know how to chose one. My sump has been completely dry for the last 8 years, but I want to be prepared just in case our record snow fall melts into my basement. So, what do I need to consider when I buy a sump pump?
Basement square footage is about 1100 feet; no city sewers- septic system; yard size is 1 acre; mostly sandy soil; basement is a typical 8 footer.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Check out Zoeller pumps, full metal construction old school stuff. Make sure to respect local codes on disposal of the waste water.
