Sumo polaris Mosfets needed

Hello members of diyaudio,

i know i am looking for the needle in the haystack but i give it a try.

i own one Sumo Polaris power amplifier that needs new output transistors

original mosfets are

2sj115 / 2sk405 they are obsolete

they can be replaced with:

2sj200 / 2sk1529

or

2sj201 / 2sk1530

there are 4 mosfets per channel 2 x 2

therefore i need 4sj and 4sk matched 2 x 2

if anyone can provide them please dont hesitate to contact me.

thanks in advance

Good advice about not exchanging Hitachi and Toshiba however. In addition to different biasing needs, the pinouts are different!

The 2SJ115 and 2SK405 just earlier versions of the 2SJ200-1/2SK1529-30

Do not try to change Hitachi's for Toshiba's...Hitachi's are lateral mosfets, Toshiba's are vertical mosfets - totally different devices and you will be not able to bias them properly.
But there is the light...you can buy proper lateral mosfets from Profusion ECX10N20/ECX10P20 see Lateral MOSFETs | Profusion

Hmmm...we are both wrong...😱Hitachi's are vertical mosfet (I did not pay enough attention to the Id vs Vgs graph for 2SJ115, from a distance they seems to have zero temco at about 100mA similar to the other laterals, but here it is 1000mA (1A) not 100mA as I thought in the first instance. Similar Id vs Vgs graph from 2SK405 datasheet (zero tempco about 4A) confirms that it is a vertical mosfet.

Hitachi's and Toshiba's have the same pinout G D S, they are the same type of mosfet (verticals) so they can replace each other with careful biasing.

many thanks for all the replys.

@jackinny

thank you for the generous offer
i know you strugeld with this amp a few years ago. How did it end?

i dont even know if its worth all the trouble?

can i contact you over PM?

Toshiba ONLY made verticals.

Hitachi made both laterals AND verticals.

Hitachi verticals were not (often) used in audio amps (at least that I've been able to identify).

Hitachi laterals have a different pinout from Hitachi verticals/Toshiba verticals. See attached picture of pinouts from old Borbely amp project.

I assume (i know, i know, my mistake 🙂 ) that when someone mentions Hitachi MOSFETs in regards to audio, they are referring to lateral technology.

Laterals and verticals are not (easily) interchangeable.
That's the warning I want to express.
sorry ...

hi,

just a quick update to my thread

many thanks to all posters, still so much to learn.

@jackinnj

thanks for offering the needed parts, i found them here in Europe now.

@Bensen

thanks for helping out

diyaudio members just rule

kind regards
