Suitable tweeter replacements: Audax TW025M0

Hi
I am currently using a pair of Audax TW025M0 tweeters in my World Audio KLS9 two-way floor-standers. I am reasonably sure that one of the tweeters is damaged as it is sounding rather dull compared to the other. Hence I am in need of replacements. I'm attempting but struggling to find any old stock of these or the TW025M1s, but does anyone know of more up to date replacements, preferably that will physically fit into the same aperture.

Many thanks for any help / advice

Jonathan

If the tweeter capacitors are bipolar electrolytic types, it may be worth replacing them first, just in case the one in series with the dull tweeter is faulty.

Thanks for the update, Jonathan!

I have spotted your post in the World Designs Forum and see in Greg's reply that Falcon Acoustics no longer have stock of the replacement tweeters.

Do let us know how you get on with the renovation.

Thanks for the suggestion and its a good idea, aside from the fact that I am using an active cross-over in a bi-amp situation.

I guess it might have been useful to say that...

If they are Bi-amped...the capacitors could still cause an issue.

(Bi-amping with a conventional crossover, is next to pointless, and isnt active amplification.)

Replace the capacitors, its pennies to fix.

Agreeing with Steve, the other likely suspect is the ferrofluid

(My first set of speakers, built 25 years ago used a very very similar Audax tweeter, and that's how they fail)

I have now dismantled the dead tweeter. The old one is held together by 4 small Phillips type screws. The new replacement ones that I have ordered and fitted use an Alan bolt.
Having removed the screws, I expected the centre part to come away, but in fact the whole top section separates from the magnet. The voice coil was held to the top section by some mild glue - prised away easily. I could not find anything obviously wrong with the coil, aside from some debris inside.
Reassembly is easy, provided you remember to align the dimples on the top of the magnet with the holes on the reverse of the coil mount.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

Jonathan
