Dear peppennino,
The box in the image is not a Nagaoka BH. It is the FOSTEX's recommended box.
If you are replacing the 103E, the FE103NV or FF105WK would be a good choice.
If you want to listen mainly to vocals, choose FOSTEX FE103NV.
If you want to listen to a variety of music, choose FOSTEX FF105WK.

Thanks Nandappe. I always thought that Fostex blh project for FE103 was a Nagaoka one.
What supertweeter do you suggest for FF105?

Dear peppennino,
I think that tweeter is unnecessary for FE103NV and FF105WK because the treble is sufficiently extended.
If you really want to add it, I recommend Fostex FT17H.

They're based on his design ideas, but this one was AFAIK designed by Fostex rather than Nagaoka himself.
Thanks to both: it is an old design, but I am particularly fond of them because they were built by my father.

Absolutely. So are the alloy cone units for that matter. The cone material is neither here nor there as far as suitability for a general enclosure type goes. But it depends on which back-horn. They are not all created equal, and like any other enclosure, optimum results are achieved by designing a horn for a specific driver, rather than trying to force a drive unit into a box designed for something else. That being said, a bit of driver-rolling is harmless fun, if you've got the cash and aren't necessarily trying to extract maximum performance. 😉
Like said before, the horn should be tuned to the driver in it. But i replaced for someone the Fostex FE103En in his fostex horn with a Tang Band W4-2142 on recommendation of someone else to the owner. And that sounded a lot better (read: less bright and more bass) than with the original FE103En. It also went louder as that driver can take a lot more power. Maybe that can work for you also.
That, I can well believe. The FE103E horn (which is what it originally was) was never particularly well-designed for the original driver, so there is a good chance something else will do better.

It is a Nagoka/Olson style stepped horn, who designed it i cannot say,
FE1O3 SOL if you can find some. I may have a pair. FF105wk should work, you will have more bass. Only the FF225wk needs a superTweeter. There are some simple surround tweaks for these drivers.

I have described the tweaks a number of times. If you can’t find one i will repeat
Not it, but somethign you will need to looks for: Driver surround coating options
