For Surround movie system (not for music) - thus mainly want "boom" for dinosaurs walking, etc
I have limited space in a cabinet for speakers. Cabinet is 10" wide by 33" high by 22" deep. Already own speaker (this is for Left and Right front channel) is 8" w, 22" high, 10" deep.
So, any ideas on how to build a subwoofer that the front channel speaker can sit on? (Or better, someone jsut tell me what to buy and build)
Perhaps the sub could have cabinetry below and behind the front channel with the "mouth" of the sub above/below the front channel
(Not sure how to draw)
Side view of cabinet
Front<------> Back

LL - is sub - side view
Thanks

Right.
You want some rumbly LF for movies. Good start.
How loud do you want this, and what will you be using to power this?

What to do
Currently I use Janis large subs from the 1990's.
I think they are prob good to 25 hz or so. They are fine but space has become an issue
Prob max spl I ever listen to on a movie would be 100dB. Not sure but I'll get out the rat shack analog meter and check it out this weekend for a slam bang action packed sound effect extravaganza of a movie. Iron man or such
Current amp is a quad 405 but I am willing to replace with some type of relatively inexpensive something or another .
I have space for amps, it's the spkr boxes that are an issue as they must fit in the cabinet.
Main goal is punch/bang for the buck. Would like to accomplish build 'em myself too. I am not out for ultra high quality sound for this room. This is strictly sound effects at the movies.
Main amps will be just a black box receiver from Japan.
Thanks
